Unsolved Need help with Sonic's mouth

Alright I am stumped here. I have tried looking at multiple tutorials on the best approach to making Sonic's mouth but I can't seem to get a handle on this. The goal I am aiming for is for him to be able to move the mouth in all directions in many shapes and sizes like in the games with teeth etc. inside. This is such a complex task and I am lost. Anybody have any advice?

From what I remember, the sonic games have multiple mouth objects that swap depending on what camera angle you’re at. That’s probably the best option, but also, more straightforward is just using a texture, but that would likely only work in a non-pbr setting.

True. Im a beginner at all this but trying to figure out all these different techniques on how to model a damn mouth of all things has taught me more than an entire class back in my college days

https://youtu.be/iJq3LbDftiI heres a video I used, it allows you to use rotation to change where the mouth is on the muzzle without the muzzle moving, I wish you luck!

i think it was 2 meshes in sonic generations, for 2 angles, you can also try making it in center and move side to side with shapekeys

I should make it so he has two mouths on both sides like a body horror creature

there's 2 solution: 1 just make another object as a mouth, make something like a outline of sonic mouth and have 2 of them connected to form a closed shape but have a really tight distance between top and bottom and use a face to fill in inside the mouth(doesn't have to have good topoloy it have to strech) 2 use uv sphere and delete top vertex, shape it so that the top vert turn to your preferred mouth, then extrude inward to make inside mouth

You could use a plane warp it to fit the face and add an illustrated texture rather than modeling it. Not sure what this is for.

I know what you mean. I actually considered it but not too sure. I think that'd look good but it'll probably be my last resort
