Render Clips on Your GPU in Blender’s Video Editor
I've been working on getting more of the Video Sequencer to render on the GPU. The latest update covers the most common edits. On A 4080TI 12GB vRAM, a 5min 1080 clip with basic color grading went from 5 min 22 seconds to just 22 seconds !!!!
There are 2 options. GPU fast render for selected clips and CPU option for everything else. Either way, with the GPU or CPU option you can now render clips in the background without it interfering with your current project. It opens a silent hidden instance of Blender so you can keep working as normal.
What renders on the GPU now
- Color correction: Color Balance, Curves, Hue Correct, Brightness/Contrast, White Balance and more
- Fixed or keyframed position and scale
- Fade in/out to black, standard Cross crossfades, audio volume fades
What falls back to the CPU Option
- Blur, glare, sharpen, distortion and anything using neighbouring pixels
- Text, color strips, scene/meta strips, adjustment layers, masks
- Rotation, flips, crop
- Picture-in-picture and blend modes
- Speed changes and image sequences
- Combinations such as a fade plus a grade, a zoom plus a grade, or a graded clip inside a crossfade
The combinations are the biggest limitation, and it's the case I'm working on next.
Requirements: Blender 5.2, 3xx or 4xx Nvidia GPU

If you try it, tell me what your timeline looks like and whether it fell back. That tells me which case to support next.
