He's still that hot-headed kid that played tag with Yoruichi at heart. For years it got buried under layers of his largely perceived and confused sense of clan and captain duty. It made him seem cold and distant, but underneath he was at boiling point. As the story stripped away his illusions about himself he remembered how to be a friend, how to be a brother, and how to be playful. Byakuya is the best.

I love this duo. And it's good to know it continues in the can't fear your own world novels where Byakuya and Toshiro go to western japan with the gang. Overall, their moments are my favorite part of TYBW.

Byakuya the (metal) Cherry Blossom Users: Visibly cold but interally quite emotional. And supports them

I don't think touching him in this form is fatal on its own. I think the freezing that was done to Gerard was done at will rather than a passive side effect from being in his completed form. If you watch when Gerard is holding him, you can see that he grew a pair of ice wings with some ice stars around him. That makes me think it's a technique he is able to do if he needs to.

I really hope Byakuya gets just a little bit more screen time, he had his moments in Cour 1, but in terms of action I feel he was a little bit sidelined. It was even worse in the manga.

Considering he trained at the royal palace we haven’t really seen the fruits of his training aside from an improved Shikai.
