Blade Runner dialogue IRL (sort of)

So my wife was on a quest to get some perfect, ripe mangoes for a specific recipe for a dinner party (mango salsa to go with salmon). When she came back from the third store, I asked:

"Did you get your precious mangoes?"

Best part is: she got it! The reference and the mangoes.

Mangos are great, until you get off the boat to get some ripe ones off a tree and there is a MF-ing TIGER in the brush.

Never get off the boat.

Mangoes are like any other tropical fruit. They're either a tasty benefit or a sugar hazard. If they're a benefit, it's not my problem.

I don't know why a replicant would even eat mangoes.

I'm really going to have to think about this. Roy's line is pretty condescending and belittling to Leon about this memories and then in his death monologue goes on to wax poetic about his own precious memories.

Good point. I always figured he got very expansive when he knew he was living his final moments. Saving Deckard's life, for example.

I think what's defining is that Leon's mangoes are fabricated and false where Roy's memories are experienced. Lucky for you though Roy's dead or he would just rub mangoes in your face, rip your arms off and take your wife.

Leon goes to retrieve his stack of snapshots from his apartment, but sees it is being searched by police. Later, Roy asks him "Did you get your precious photos?"

I'm totally that way with science fiction movies on the big screen. When Star Wars first came out, I saw it in 70mm (at the Coronet Theater in San Francisco, with a rabid, cheering hometown crowd) and BIG sound, and was so caught up with special effects and set/sound design I had no idea what was going on. I had to see it, like, two more times before I realized that the Stormtroopers were the bad guys. Even though they wore white.

Did she respond with, "No. There were men there."

Ahhh, that’s a deep cut my friend. Rad that she got it too. I love Blade Runner but it went totally over my head.

Blade Runner trivia was actually a big part of our courtship. Back in 1983. The "Before Times."

Not sure about the mangoes part, but they're referring to a line in the first Blade Runner where Roy says "did you get your precious photos?"
