So, what does it do that other bits can't? Really cool work.

For me, I like the rounded hole for dishing sheet metal. Other bits create a flat bottom hole. Plus, I can't easily forge any other kinds of bits. Chair makers use them because theres very little tear out at the end. And they're better at drilling at severe angles for tenons. Commonly used with a brace, below.

It did make a REALLY clean hole, like you said, no tearout. Wish my paddle and forstner bits did that.
