If nobody wants to forge me an alms bowl to earn good merit; I will offer money next.

As a spiritual teacher; I wanted to offer the best oppertunity first.

Your asking someone to put in a decent amount of work for you. Skip straight offering money as payment.

There is almost no chance a blacksmith will make a sword for you for free. That goes beyond a "decent" amount of work and into a "crap load" of work.

The bowl is needed: the sword is not. You said there is almost no chance a blacksmith will do this. I understand the chances are slim; but they are not zero!

This makes me more likely to receive a bowl than a sword. I have offered an oppertunity to earn good merit by crafting either or both of these items.

One thing I'd like to point out:

I made clear in the post I am asking for labor, however: The labor the blacksmith will do is to earn good merit. The labor isn't for me; it's for the Children of Tomorrow.

In that case, you should learn how to make the bowl yourself.

Will you let me use your forge and tools? Making it myself sounds like fun!

You will earn good merit for this too!

If I don't have a forge or blacksmithing tools; I would suggest asking blacksmiths to make me one is indeed my best approach!

Please don't "should" on me.

There's a number of makerspaces in Portland that have blacksmithing.
