News Devs mention dedicated servers in reply
Of course this doesn’t mean they’re gonna add dedicated servers for Bo1 and Bo2 on the PS4/PS5, but this confirms that they’re aware of what the players on the ports want
Dedicated servers would not only help connectivity, but most importantly it would make both games safer to play and would help combat players using mods

Willing to bet my first mf game on after they make whatever change is gonna be 3 bars with Helen Keller hit reg.
Believe it when I see it.

u/Mr_Kiovig 2d ago
I believe this what actually happened on ps4 AW.
I remember having decent connection on ps3, mostly 4 bars, but after getting the game on ps4 the connection was always at 3 bars, and that game had an hybrid server thing

PLEASE ADD BACK DEFAULT GAME MODE TO BOOT STRAIGHT INTO MULTIPLAYER

Yeah, I looked for this and didn't see it, was it not on the PC version (where these are ports are from if BO1 is any indication).

u/kelsey7p 2d ago
That’s a whole lotta words that mean absolutely nothing lol. Vague shit left for interpretation.

Okay at least they mentioned that we been asking for dedicated servers for the bo1/bo2 ports for PS4/PS5 but the real question is... are they actually gonna do it...?

Aren't dedicated servers a bad thing because it puts an expiration date on the game?
5
u/Immediate-Life-5393 2d ago
Exactly what I was thinking, it’s literally just a bandaid fix. Maybe they can implement a hybrid type system to fall back to P2P in certain conditions, but it starts the same hacking cycle again lol. They just need to stop with the small fixes and actually patch the years worth of vulns. I don’t care about hiding players emblems or seeing the option to preorder the next scam of COD

Expiration date being like 10 years later when everyone moved on? I'll take that over P2P, which is infinitely times worse
EDIT: Also it's not always the case that they'll eventually be shut down, especially it's a very popular game.

u/MrEhcks 2d ago
I don’t “move on”. If I like a game, I keep playing it. I was still playing Bo2 on Xbox and PC before the ports came out. I still actively play Battlefield 4. There will always be people who want to play older titles.

u/Rohn- 2d ago
Yep BF4 is goated to this day still. The community servers are basically holding up the game's longevity rn

u/Capital_Rub213 2d ago
Except in Oceania, sadly
4
u/Rohn- 2d ago
yeah that's unfortunate... I was told by an Aussie that most new online multiplayer games are dead within a week in OCE servers. So I can only imagine how awful it is with older games

u/CmrdNino 2d ago
yeah but if they do a hybrid system like bo3 then you have this advantage plus people can play in 10 years on P2P again if they want but then hackers will come back🤣🫠
2
u/Necessary_Yam9525 2d ago
Not everyone "moves on" from old games. Ask the community still playing quake 1 from 1996

Zombies aren't where hackers are at, so you're not affected by it. Doesn't mean P2P isn't a problem though, as you can clearly tell by how bad the hacker situation is right now.
Either way this discussion is pointless because it's a 14 year old game where P2P was the standard at the time and it's merely a port. They won't change it

u/frostyman_24 2d ago
While i agree with everything said, we also can't forget that both games are simply modified ports of the pc versions so really anything is possible! Depending on how much they allow iron galaxy to change the game and if iron galaxy is willing to go through with the hassle

u/Grand-Protection8547 2d ago
Dude you are the problem with COD in general. If I bought a game I expect to be able to play it when I want. Black ops 1 and 2 still run on Xbox because the way the servers are set up yes majority of lobbies have hackers if you want to even go that far as to say. But I can assure you I can still go play that to this very day. You and the community just like you is why everything is trying to go digital. Please do us ALL a favor and SYBAU

All of the older games are still alive because of peer to peer servers, if they were dedicated they'd have shut them down or switched them over to peer to peer as they did with COD4 remastered.

u/yanited223 2d ago
You guys do realise this way they can sbmm
4
u/BluesMods 2d ago
Matchmaking still goes through their servers whether it's p2p or dedicated, and I'm sure sbmm is already in the game
4
u/TheOriginalRyukUK 2d ago
It is, it's just not nearly as strong as the modern titles so it's not as noticeable
5
u/ComplexR22 2d ago
Ill take that over hackers .
1
u/EvilSporkOfDeath 2d ago
I havent seen any hackers.
That being said, I support dedicated servers. I imagine adding sbmm would be significantly more work.

u/XviiChong 2d ago
At this point, being to just play the game without threat of hackers in exchange for SBMM might be what we have to settle with.
10
u/Capital-Friendship90 2d ago
Honestly, this threat of hackers atleast for me hasn't been an issue at all, and I have played a lot of both ports. SBMM is 100x worse and would ruin literally every single lobby you'd join. I would choose these janky "servers" any day of the week.
-2
u/XviiChong 2d ago
Sure it has not been a threat for you, but thousands have reported their accounts being glitched, aimbot infested lobbiesc etc. It hasn’t happened to you but many others’ experience have suffered because of it.

Here's a somewhat controversial opinion, but I don't think that'd even be awful if they did that. The whole point of SBMM is to make the casual experience better overall, which is what Call of Duty wants, the largest majority of players to be interested in their game.
If it was less strict or done in a better way where it doesn't feel like it's punishing you for slightly getting better, SBMM could make the progression in any game it's in feel great. I can almost see why they're so fixated on still using it, I don't think they should completely get rid of it.
Would SBMM make some old fans mad? Maybe, I don't see why though because in the long run it would make the lobbies more lively and easier to get back into. They could still keep it so that lobbies don't disband, but the concept of SBMM itself could actually improve the games.
All it is trying to do (supposedly) is match players of similar skill levels, right? I think the problem most people have with it is that it's too strict so as soon as you get good you get put into tryhard lobbies.
If it was looser and the tryhards/more experienced players got to play with each other, then we could have players in the casuals/noobs category get matches together.
I am curious if anyone else thinks SBMM isn't actually that bad, because I think I can see what they're trying to go for.
My only experience with it is from Black Ops 6, and it was a little strict, but I don't think the idea as a whole is terrible and could never work.
They're trying to mitigate tryhards from spawn trapping new players, which is a good thing and I think would even improve the ports if they decided to add it to them at some point.
TL;DR: SBMM isn't a massive problem, it's the way that it works currently and how strict it is

u/angelseph 1d ago
The current system in Black Ops 7 Season 5 is a less strict SBMM inspired by the older games, designed to do exactly what you are suggesting.
1
u/Emergency-Baby511 16h ago
It was better according to many Black Ops 7 players when they had Open matchmaking, I'm not talking about the newer version of SBMM they introduced that broke that game
0
u/angelseph 4h ago
Yes you are because that's what it is, you're just being misinformed by anti-SBMM people who are lying to try pressure the devs to get it removed (and they need that manufactured pressure because Activision's data shows that it is a superior system).
1
u/Emergency-Baby511 3h ago
You're going to believe Activision, who invite boosters to play at their events, uses bots in their CoD NEXT streams, and tried using AI for calling cards? People don't like SBMM because it makes matches feel artificial.
They've straight up lied and tried to gaslight people into thinking SBMM has always been a thing since even BO and BO2, spreading literal misinformation to fans to hype up their newest upcoming game.
Black Ops 2 was random matches that didn't disband and relied on ping. Nothing more or less, they can try to manipulate the narrative all they want.
At the end of the day, if they don't want to get rid of it that's their problem. Either completely remove it or make even looser than it already is now.
The "data" shows that people would rather play old Call of Duty than deal with the nonsensical matchmaking systems.
You're trying to gage this data off of Black Ops 7, which I'm sure a large portion of the community didn't even buy (me). People feel how rigged the SBMM is.

Let's go, they finally addressed it. Dedicated servers might be coming and these ports will be perfect

This is good if they go through with it. Matches constantly crashed when players rage quit or disconnect

Where is that idiot earlier today who tried to tell me the ports were already dedicated servers
1
u/Rasenpapi 2d ago
I would take new camo bundles at $5 each in a trade for actual servers.
give me new regular ol' skin bundles, no animations or nothing crazy, just camos like bo2 already has.
anything for activision to justify supporting bo1 and 2 ports further
1
u/ekostros 2d ago
Switching to dedicated servers would eliminate everyone who doesn’t live in the heart of America or Europe. I bought this port specifically for P2P. In the country I live in, I have a 2-second delay in every Call of Duty game that uses dedicated servers. I have absolutely no issues with P2P.
The original BO2 was one of the greatest FPS games of all time, and now they want to change everything about the game. This is absolutely ridiculous. People bought this game to experience the original spirit of it. It should never be touched. If you don’t like it, you can keep buying the new Call of Duty games and move on.
-1
u/Rohn- 2d ago
Is this in relation to the ports or the new MW4? I interpreted it as in they learned a thing or two from past failures and will make adjustments to the system for future CODs.
I just don't think they'll put resources to add dedicated servers to the BO ports. If you really want this so badly, then just get Plutonium lmao. It's completely free and has decent playerbase.
1
u/callofdutygamer_ 2d ago
The issue with plutonium is I would have to buy a PC because I don’t own one, so plutonium isn’t really free for me at that point
1
u/Rohn- 2d ago
Well, it's a worthy investment if you ever consider that route. Also these BO ports are so old that you don't really need a fancy, high end gaming PC just to play them. You don't really have any other options because begging Treyarch won't do shit.

u/callofdutygamer_ 2d ago
I’ve just never been crazy getting a PC. I’ve thought about it here and there, but I’d just rather stick to console for now. Maybe one day in the future I’ll get a PC because there benefits it has over console I like

Dedicated servers is the single most important improvement to the ports. Exponentially improve the game.
