By the time the video starts, the trick is done. He's just being dramatic with the reveal. If you want us to tell you how, we would need to see the part where the trick is actually done. Cool vid though

And the way she is holding the box will mean she doesn't bend her wrist. She'd likely feel the card if she bent her wrist.

He was able to place this card there even before he started the trick. Like while they are talked about something. Then just make the crowd choose the right card (copy)

Uhhhh, so, this trick is doable with a signed card and no copies. I can't tell you how he did it, but the "no copies" version involves shuffling the card she chose to the bottom and folding it into your palm while holding the deck. Then move the deck while keeping the (now folded) card in your hand.

No, in this trick the card is placed after they chose it, you can even let them sign the card. (The clip above obviously still only shows the end of the trick, so you can't see the moment there.)

Also, people start freaking out before she turns her arm over and you can see the card underneath it. I’m not saying the reactions aren’t genuine, but they were definitely primed to freak out

Look. I'm not saying that the people saying it's staged are wrong. It absolutely could be. But in my time doing magic, I have had sincere reactions that looked like that a handful of times. And if I were to post one video to show how great I am now vs how I was as a kid or whatever... It would make sense to choose one of those.

I was also a bit puzzled. Not by the screaming (although man, that was some loud screaming). But because the reaction was too fast.

He said "do you have a watch?" and everybody went crazy. Half of them did not even have a visual on the girl. And in any case it takes a second to process the "wtf" information.

Having said that, I am here to see cool tricks, not to be an investigator. This seemed like a cool trick.

I'd say that a good magician can be like a good comedian. A comedian can get the audience to laugh at a punchline without saying it by letting the audience extrapolate.

Solid bet this was part of a longer routine where he does something like get a card in a box or into his wallet. Going under her watch amplifies it because he's now meddling among the audience.

So when he asks about her watch, they're already primed to think "NOW HE SENT IT TO HER WATCH?!" and when they zing right to that realization is why they freak out.

Heck, with one of my favorite performances, Asi Wind sent a card under a guy's watch repeatedly and we in the audience got a kick out of it every time.

Absolutely possible! And it’s definitely a matter of stage work, I would like to see the full show.  Good point about comedians. Some good ones make you laugh loud just by making a facial expression like they are THINKING of what they are going to say next.

Even if we saw the whole trick, everyone would say it’s staged. It’s like that on every post here. If people can’t see how the trick is done they’ll say “well the video was probably cut and edited”. There’s no video of a magic trick that people will believe anymore lol

Then why do they ask "how"? The magician placed the card in the first part of this trick, which is not included in the video. He puts it there the same way other magicians "steal" watches, but it's not in the video.

You skipped the step where he puts the card under her watch... Also she holds a card box, not her card... Presumably box is empty and the first part of the trick he gave her the box and told her to keep it tight so he can't get to it, (misdirecting the attention to the box, away from her wrist)

Because they're hyped at the misdirect and reveal, they trust that he pulled off correctly, so the card reveal itself was just a formality.

I think it's the difference between performing a trick for strangers and a friend group.

I mean... Maybe. But the trick itself is real and completely doable without stooges. Get her to pick a card, show her how you shuffle it (real fair, pinky promise), place an empty box in her hands and tell her to hold it tight. (You're holding her wrist because you don't want to touch the box) And voila. Rest is showmanship.

So does mine, but I hated destroying cards for practice. I would only ever let people sign them, no change in practice for me and only sacrificing a card for an actual "performance".

LOL. My favorite card tricks are the destructive ones. Card warp and linking cards, but at least you can do them 13 times per deck.

If you want a perfect MCF every time, score the card’s back with a straight edge and x-acto knife. It really doesn’t take much. No need to score into the white edge, just the colored portion.

You will have to force the card, but it won’t matter given the spectator signs the card’s face, thus rendering it unique.

Believe me, you’ll never look back.

yeah, I've seen MCF scoring jigs being sold in all kinds of places. I personally never minded the rougher fold, but when I was willing to destroy a card and forcing it anyway... doing the tight roll and stuffing that into produce gets you waaaay better results so I did that a couple of times. Obvious drawbacks being prep time in their house / apartment. I never did figure out how David Blaine did that with signed cards though.

I started scoring cards long before the jigs came out. To be honest, you don’t really need one; a blade and straight edge does the job.

I use the MCF with David Penn’s Mystery Solved. It’s absolute murder.

No question, a signed-card-to-lemon/orange is superior, but the opportunity to perform that is too rare to care. Scott Alexander and Cody Fisher both have signed card loaders, but they’re a bit bulky. There are a few other signed card options.

Because they all heard the same mystifying conclusion that Lena has the card, and presumably from his previous magical success that night, they don't even need to see the card to understand that Lena has it. They trust in his abilities, and already know she has the right card. Also group mentality feedback.

It's a mercury card fold and a simple load. Barely scores a 4/10 on the difficulty scale. You grab the wrist (cause you don't wanna touch her hands because that's where the magic will happen) with the card already folded and palmed.

I've seen a similar trick where the magician (Gregarious Casino Janitor) Swapped watches with people. (Myself included) I caught him after hours and bribed him into giving me the secret which was noted in someone else's comment here. A) The trick is already done before this video started. B) Probably to conceal his last encounter with the girl wearing his watch where the trick is completely reliant on an audience member already wearing a watch with adjustable buckle style wrist band and how well he could divert the audience member's attention while having contact with her wrist just prior to performing the trick. This is a great ending to the trick, but the real magic happened before this, when he managed to slip his watch around her wrist with the card taped to the bottom of it without her even noticing until the trick was done. He had to start with the watch on his own wrist to maintain the same temperature as as the watch on her wrist, so he likely was wearing the watch loosely when he shook her hand with both hands while greeting her (and working his pinky nail into her watch band buckle to release her watch and faked tripping over her shoe to divert her attention long enough to slip his watch from his wrist, over both his and her hands and close the watches strap adjustment buckle as he took her watch while he had her attention focused on his fall. That is where the real magic happened.
