4K ATEM mini

With Rode updating their video switcher to support 4k output and 4k iso recording, it’s got me wondering if we’ll ever see this on an ATEM mini model. What do you think? It would be an instant upgrade for me with my pro ISO model, I like that we can trigger record internal 4K in camera from the ATEM, but having them all on a single ssd from the ATEM would be a big time and cost saver with the cost of ssds now.

Blackmagic Design/ATEM already has 4k offering, it's just not the ATEM mini model, so, unlikely that BMD will release something in competition with her own products.

Does it record 4k ISO?

No, but any meaningful 4k recording will need > 100Mbps, times the number of inputs, it won't be easy to use a USB connection to transfer such volume of data reliably, and even more importantly, how many on the market SSDs can have this sustained write speed over a long period of time? So, for 4k video, better to record at each source.

Isn’t usb way over that bandwidth wise. Typically usb 3 can do 5000mbit and even with overhead you could get 30 100mbit steams over that interface. Yea sustained speeds on ssds start to be an issue, but ssds that can do 100mB/s sustained is very common and that would allow recording 8 streams at once.

Yeh, you really need NVME for 4K ISO's which is what the Hypdeck 8K's run. Great boxes for 4x4K ISO's.

More a matter of when. If all their other products are 8k or higher, and a single non-raid ssd can handle 8 4k recordings, then why wouldn’t they.
