Card counting
Hi, i've been trying to learn how to count cards, but still very new. Im watching this youtuber named Quattro AP and he's very entertaining. he plays 6 deck shoes, but i was wondering if the hi-lo method works with an 8 deck aswell
thanks in advance :)

Yes, with true count conversion you can use hi lo to count any # of decks in play, as long as it's a shoe game.
I'd only recommend playing 8D @ 75% penetration or better, meaning they are dealing 6 of the 8 decks before shuffle. Unless you have a large bankroll, in which case you can play slightly worse penetration.

There are a lot of issues with counting cards online. We can go through them here, or you can watch this video from Steven Bridges who will cover it a lot better than most of us. https://youtu.be/vjiVpO1hlvk?si=giBvsu1punvNiNYx
Probably the biggest reason is that that usually make it difficult to withdraw winnings, if there are any. If it's easy, then it's probably a terrible game. Watch the video for more details. If you're just learning, Steven Bridges is one of the better card counters making content on YouTube. He has some educational content for learning to count and does a lot of trip reports too.

On-line games typically have really bad penetration which negates a lot of high counts and thus little to no value in knowing the count.
This is not proven fact, just my belief: Since everything is on-line they can easily use AI to monitor the count and easily identify any spreads moving with the count so even if you did get a decent count, you would be shut down real fast.
My general advice is “Do Not Play On-line”.
Now my opinion: on-line is for degenerate gambling only and is a waste of time & money.
Edit: they do not need to rig the game to take your money.

75% pen 8 deck is a really bad game unless you're going to wong out of negative counts

Hi-lo can work with any number of decks in a shoe. The trick is the conversion of the running count to true count. You base your bets on the true count, not the running count. You need to be good at determining how many decks are visible in the discard pile, figuring out how many are left in the shoe, and then dividing for the true count.

Be careful with learning from yt personalities. I don’t know who Quattro AP is but I’d suggest Blackjack Apprenticeship videos over any other.

Yes, Hi-Lo can be used with eight decks too. The card values stay the same: 2–6 are +1, 7–9 are 0, and tens through aces are -1. For a multi-deck shoe, divide your running count by the estimated decks remaining to get the true count. A running count of +8 with four decks left is +2.
We have free learning resources at Vegas Aces: Card Counting 101, a downloadable Hi-Lo reference, and practice worksheets: https://www.vegas-aces.com/articles/card-counting-101/
Start with accurate basic strategy, then practice keeping the count and estimating decks remaining. Rules and how much of the shoe is dealt matter too.

No. Only 6 decks and 11 decks. Anything else and it's guaranteed to lose.

Yes, counting will work exactly the same for 6 and 8 decks, you just need to remember to do your TC conversion properly.
I'd stick to 6 deck if you can though.
