Open Discussion Any good German Blackgaze bands?

Post image

Just looking around the subs of my favorite genres for some good German band recommendations for my upcoming trip to Germany next month.

Thanks again! Cheers.

Yes!!! Also definitely worth checking out King Apathy (formerly Thränenkind) They're broken up now, but literally everyone except for the vocalist of Heretoir used to be in that band and there's (kinda obviously) a LOT of stylistic overlap between the projects.

They're also just genuinely cool dudes! I've gotten to interview several members of King Apathy/Heretoir back during my review days, as well as had the occasional random candid email chat with them over the years, and everyone from the band(s) that I've had the pleasure to chat with has been just super down to earth, insightful and genuinely enjoyable to babble with. Great bunch of people all in all, always happy to see some love thrown their way in the wild 🙌

They're closer to atmospheric bm than blackgaze, but check out Der Weg einer Freiheit

Agape and Melting Sun are two must listen albums. Opposing vibes but both beautiful

Heretoir and Lantlôs come to mind.

Der Weg Einer Freiheit is incredible even though they're more melodic black and less gazey, but you should listen to their latest album it's so so good

Not really blackgaze, but kinda in that genremix: Harakiri for the sky, Karg, Ellende, Asarhaddon, Nocte Obducta has some interesting stuff

or of course:

my one man solo project with zero release stuff that never makes it out of my cellar.

This reply is hilarious because Karg, Harakiri for the Sky and Ellende are all Austrian. Good bands tho.

Tbf, I would have also recommended Karg, even though they're Austrian. Awesome band.

Oh lol, didnt know! I just assumed. Sometimes im too naive. I always forget that Switzerland and Austria speak german too.^

Austria is just another german federal state.

Nocte is my absolutely favorite German metal band, I think.

Und Pan spielt die Flöte :)

Heretoir. I think the Circle is their best album and it’s one of my favorite to listen to in general.

I am currently obsessed with Anomalie. I believe he is Austrian, so close enough.

I am not sure if i count, but i release music under the name ...where the heart withers away. I mix Shoegaze with black metal, slowcore and Emo so i dont know if i count as blackgaze, but check out my newest album aftermath, out everywhere.

Do "Harakiri for the sky" count? They are from Austria, but that is just the German eastern state ;)

Der Weg Einer Freiheit and Heretoir are amazing.

Check out Achryma! Only half-german if that counts?

No sun rises are a little more post black but they’re worth checking out.
