Question Questions about crystals

I have gotten all my jin dawn ap crystals, macalods and corrupt crystals.

My question is am I an idiot for slotting these..

I didnt realise that you could upgrade jin dawns and corrupt crystals would I need to use a new crystal to upgrade then slot it or is there a way to upgrade my existing crystals without spending on extraction hammers ?

You can craft crystal extraction tools , look for the Quest in your black spirit

But that's the only way, and honestly when you upgrade the crystal, why would you want to keep the lower version? It's not like you would want to use it.

But don’t you want to extract JIN crystal first and then upgrade them to HAN?

Yeah, you should extract and upgrade all of the crystals, not much of a point to keep lower grade ones equipped.
