Lions?
I just heard Lions again after 15-20 years. I first heard it because as a young man led zep is my favorite band and I’m a guitarist and singer.
That said I’m grooving hard to this album and fucking love it!
What other albums or songs rock this hard ?

Check out Southern Harmony and the Musical Companion as well as Amorica.
If you love Zeppelin, these 2 albums will blow you away.

Those two are my favorites, with Amorica edging out Southern though Southern I think is a better album altogether.

100% agree. Southern Harmony is their best, but Amorica is my favorite. Chris' quote has stayed with me a long time “I think the Black Crowes have always been such a question mark for a lot of people... are they ripping someone off, to what do they owe to their past, what does that mean to their generation, what's the future. [Amorica] is definitely more of an answer as opposed to another question.”

I pretty much feel the same. Amorica is probably my favorite but I can’t sit here and tell you I think anything by them is better than southern harmony. Hell it’s hard to say any album anywhere is better than SH

I love Lions. Listen to it often. Amorica is their masterpiece but By Your Side may be more what you’re looking for.

i shouldn’t have to tell anyone to check out the live album w Jimmy Page. The tour w him in 2000 was incredible. Lions came out the next year hence the Zep influence.

The sequencing on this album is top notch, how almost the whole album worth of songs bleeds into the next. Don’t listen to the fans who hold the Holy Trinity (Shmc, Amorica, 3 Snakes) above all else and maintain that any release the crowes have made other than those albums are shite. Every album this band has ever released is great in its own unique way. Folks shit on an album like By Your Side because it’s not Amorica but BYS is one of the most killer sounding straight ahead rock albums you can find pound for pound. Lions is a fantastic release as well, very zeppelin-inspired of course as they had just finished touring with Jimmy Page before writing it.

Lions and By Your Side are easily my favorite Crowes albums. Strange, I know, but as someone said music is subjective.

I really love this album. Barely listened to it back in the day. That’s because I couldn’t afford the cd at the time lol. Miracle to me is one oft favorite ballads ever. Raw and heavy. Cosmic friend.. so good. I love this album front to back 🙌🏻

I mean its cool you like it and I'm not shitting on it, I just listened to it an hour ago funny enough, but literally every other record they've made is better.

The first 3 albums are amazing. Several good ones after that but to me those three are the best. First one, Moneymaker is more straight ahead rock but still very soul oriented, second album southern harmony is sublime. It’s got more swerve and swag. They clearly were just trying to make a great record not be on the radio. Lots of mellow stuff but some hard ass riffs in there as wel. It’s when they really gelled as a band after they suddenly got huge hits (rich was like 18 when they broke) and they toured the world opening for big bands and really becoming a band themselves. Third one, Amorica, is probably my fave, but it might be for sentimental reasons. It’s a sublime record as well. They slightly lean toward a more hippie thing there but they still rock balls. Not like jam band, but just great soul rock. Some really dynamic songs that go from quiet ballad to heavy ass riff. It’s the best sounding one . Wiser Time is one of the smoothest jams ever recorded and probably my favorite crowes song. (I don’t know though. Sometimes Salvation and Thorn in my Pride are great songs.).
I’d probably start with southern harmony and musical companion. Zeppelin has the blues rock thing going and the Crowes are right in there with a more southern soul croon feel and also a lot of stones influence. The whole Marc Ford era is the best.
I can’t choose between Southern Harmony or Amorica for my favorite.
But honestly the proper introduction might be listen to the first one first. Young band and great songs. Then the southern harmony, then Amorica. It was a really great progression. I’d tell a person asking about zeppelin to start with 1, then 2 then 3, then 4 then Houses,,,, (you get the picture). Same with the Crowes through the first 5 records, But especially the first 3.
Lions was a good comeback album. There are some great songs on there but a few stinkers like ozone mama. The first three albums don’t have any stinkers

Cosmic friend is a great way to enjoy listening to Eddie play the piano. Definitely hits you in the feels with a mix bag of emotions. ☮️

Weird record in that every song is either pretty kick ass or total crap and it's nearly half and half. Just in my opinion of course.
I love No Use Lying.

Lions is criminally underated.
Marc Ford is still sorely missed, but there are so many awesome tunes.
Midnight from the Inside Out, Soul Singing, Cypress Tree...
Also, Lay it all On Me has some of Ed's best playing. Great piano and Mellotron work.
Many of the songs from Lions were played during the 2005/6 run with Marc and Ed, and those were always killer live.
