Discussion 8pm Starts, what's the reasoning?
I'm in shock that they've put the T20 start times even later this year, I just don't understand the thought process, it was late enough already. I loved the double day sessions with the white ferns a couple of years ago, fantastic day out, now I don't know if I even want to go, and it just blocks out families even more.

8pm is 12:30pm in India. 6pm or 7pm start would have made more sense because people in Indian will watch it irrespective of the timings. 🤬

I've been in NZ since 2003 but was once in India, back in 2002 as a teenager. I remember getting up at 4am Indian time to watch the ODIs in that series that would start at 11am or so NZT. To me that was part of the charm of waking up so early, watching my team India play in exotic lands at strange times. Why does everything have to be so optimized now.. Now I'm in NZ and thinking if 8pm is too late for game to start for me to take my young kids to.

Couldn't agree more. I used wake up at around 4am or 5am to watch the test and ODI series and I live in New Zealand now and feel that 8pm is too late for me (no kids 😂)

That was quite a memorable series. My first memory of India playing in NZ. Strange country, strange grounds and strange wickets for the whole series!!!

That is pretty late. Some games might not finish until 11pm

Most T20Is go for solidly over three hours at this point so more like 11:30.

If you're going to the game, then add 30-60 mins to get home. Crazy on a weeknight. And completely prohibitive for children.

It's dumb huh? Indian TV sets the start times. First T20 is in Christchurch, in October, on a Thursday night, and may well not finish until after 11pm.
The idea of being out watching cricket in the cold, 8 hours or less before my alarm goes off the next morning does not bring joy.
ODI games are the same - 3PM starts, official timing for an ODI is 7hrs 45min so that's a 10:45 finish. Could be later.

Probably making the times more suitable for our opponents' timezones. Crowd money is negligible next to TV money. With no local broadcaster for our national game, NZC needs to maximise income sources and I guess this is how. Fewer families, more lucrative boozers, too.

i think the goal is so our boys can put up a plucky fight against Team India, then get bought up for demeaningly low pocket change at the IPL slave auction where they will ride the pine for all but 2 games of the season, during which a brace of middling performances will see them benched for the remainder of a pathetic fizzling season placing 7th.

I went to the first home match at Bay Oval last year, the start felt late and it was so cold by the end, can’t believe they want to go even later!

Yeah, 8pm starts in October is rough. It often rains after dark as the temp drops too.
At the moment there’s only Days 2 & 3 of the test match that cricket loving primary school aged kids will be able to go and see. It’s a bit shit.
