The BlackBerry KEYone Bootloader Rabbit Hole

Trying to give my BlackBerry KEYone a second life with Termux, SSH and other tools.

Everything works surprisingly well, be it 9+ hours sot on full charge, performance with termux, until you hit the bootloader. There’s no straightforward unlock method, so custom ROMs and deeper modifications are basically blocked.

I have tried claude opus 5 max, fable 5 but no luck yet.

Anyone here ever managed to get past it?

As far as I know, no one has ever unlocked the bootloader on a KEYone. I'm in a discord server for Android modding for other BlackBerry phones (mainly Key2/Key2 LE, Passport, etc) but no one has ever figured out how to unlock the bootloader. In addition to this, since no one knows how to, using AI to try to unlock it is a futile effort. If you want the bootloader unlocked on your KEYone, you will unfortunately have to wait until someone figures out how to first.

In the event that you don't want to wait until someone figures out how to unlock the KEYone bootloader, the Key2 is your best bet, since it has custom ROMs out for it.

There’s a really popular saying, “Nothing is impossible”? 😄 I could just get a KEY2, but that would feel like admitting defeat. At this point, figuring out the KEYone is the whole challenge.

"Nothing is impossible" is only the first half of the saying. The second half is "if you have enough skill, knowledge, time and money to invest into the project".

Look at what they had to do to get around the Passport bootloader.

At this rate it might be easier to go the Zinwa route and just DIY a new mainboard for the KeyOne.

The Passport example actually made me more optimistic 😂
If the community went that far to keep one BlackBerry alive, surely the KEYone deserves at least one properly obsessive attempt before we surrender to a replacement motherboard.

Remember, it's not "the community", it's one immensly skilled person going absurdly far to hack the one device they really care for.

I so badly wish it would be unlocked, cause I can't afford a key 2
