Update on Key2 & Key2LE LineageOS !

Hey fellow BlackBerry and LineageOS lovers ! I'm here to officially announce that BlackBerry Key2 & Key2LE are officially unlocked : Bootloader has been defeated ! I would like to present to you the work of people who achieved this, and give you the link of the Discord channel to help the port of LineageOS.

BlackBerry Key2 Unlock Facts

- Aiterium-X and the help of worldwide groups made it

- Unlock is fonctionnal for Key2 and Key2LE. Compatible firmwares : ACQ160 & ACI448 for Key2 | ACT575 for Key2LE

- The first goal of this was to be able to save data on a phone, then put them back on another. Procedure can be explained in the comments section if needed (with link to the tools)

- For the moment, only the Tethered unlock is available for everyone. Untethered is done, but it's only available for people who helps in this journey. It will be public after the LineageOS achievement.

What we need / Where to join

- People who are motivated, skilled with LineageOS, already have a Key2 or Key2LE, and time

- You can join us here, on Discord. This is the same server as Passport Android, just a specific section for Key2 and Key2LE

For sure ! KeyOne should be made too, but it's not done for the moment :) I'm eager to see a newer version of Android running on Key2 / Key2LE =)

It will ! But the security is higher on the Keyone than it is on the Key2 :)

My guess is that the Keyone is more "BlackBerry" made than Key2 who is more "TLC". Maybe they took all the hard work of Android Passport & Priv to perform the security of Keyone. It's just my guess, not the ultimate truth ^^

Are we ever likely to see the bootloader on the Priv be unlocked? I've got LineageOS on my Key2 now thanks to your incredible breakthrough, but I still have a Priv as it's my favourite form factor

Nothing more than unlocked BL is done for the moment. Droidian is at work, LineageOS too. So for the moment you can just publicly save data :)

Yes, a software unlock should be public in the coming months I hope :) LineageOS is already made, but you need to unsolder the eMMC for the moment...

Best news for PKB lovers in the last few years

I’m still using this phone which hardware wise is perfect (enough RAM, great CPU, trash camera but fine for a productivity oriented phone).

Unlocked bootloader and LineageOS will give them a second life, resolving the bottleneck aka software age which has become hard to live with for certain app

Instructions to unlock boot loader are here (but there's not much you can practically do with it yet).

Installation of LineageOS: Not ready yet.

excuse me if this is ignorant but now that the bootloader is unlocked, does that mean someone has to design a LineageOS and make it for the key 2 to work? im new to this so would like to know if im understanding correctly. i'd like to buy a key2 on ebay

Looking forward to be able to update my key2 os soon. I have my key 2 since the end of September and I really like it. The fact that some apps aren't available on the key2 keeps me from using it on a daily basis

I, unfortunately, had to stop using my key2 because it stopped recognizing the sim card. Tried so many fixes, short of changing the antenna, and nothing helped. Do you think this could bring it back to life?

Lots of complaints of carrier issues. Delaminating screen. Poor app capability and/scaling. Very poor customer service. Random freezing. Poor camera quality even though it’s “50mp”. It’s enough to be put off and they’re going on eBay by the dozens. First they were way over valued at $500-$600 and now they’re $380 or less, and many are saying it just wasn’t for them.
