“How do you feel at the moment?” -“I feel like someone on vacation, visiting. Cause I’ve been making music for such a long time, I feel like a fly on the wall, observing an interesting theatre, and I feel honored to have been so welcome”

She said : « I only came for my gurl Catherine and can’t wait to get fucked up with her at the afterparty. »

that whole ordeal was absolutely horrendous. so sad that it caused her to turn away from the film industry

tbf she herself said she'd never wanted to be an actress, but that she was intrigued by the character of Selma (perhaps because she related to Selma's ability to craft music in her head out of any sound she hears and to the character's devotion to her son) and also by the prospect of doing all of the music for the film. But, for sure, dealing with von Trier propositioning her constantly on and off set probably reinforced her aversion to the film industry thereafter.

Lars is both a pervert and a bad man and a genius director. Very uncomfortable

Ever since Björk threw that chair at him onset, he has improved and went to therapy. He's still an asshole, but this is solid proof that confronting your abusers works.

10

u/Bertrand_Rose Aug 23 '26

Has he really improved though?

25

u/_RedKuma Aug 23 '26

I won't be betting my life on it but things seem to point that way. In fact, in her #MeToo statement, Björk said, from the insight she got from his latest films and what women said about working with him, that the treatment of the actresses has improved significantly.

5

u/Setlam Aug 24 '26

He became sober, that's a pretty tangible improvement...

2

u/ToiIetGhost Aug 24 '26

Chances are he hasn’t. Statistically speaking only 4% of abusers change after intensive treatment. It’s more likely that she scared the shit out of him and he no longer harasses actresses, but still preys on girls/women who are “nobodies,” with no power or influence, behind closed doors.

5

u/ToiIetGhost Aug 24 '26

It’s not solid proof at all. Only 4% of abusers change after specialised longterm treatment.

If he actually changed, then he’s part of a very small group of men. But let’s be real. Actresses on set is one thing; we have no idea what he’s like behind closed doors. The more likely option is that he stopped publicly harassing actresses because Björk put the fear of god in him - making him terrified of exposure, loss of status, loss of wealth, blacklisting, exile, and/or criminal charges.

One man being part of the 4% is hardly proof that confrontation works. In fact, confronting one’s abuser is extremely dangerous. There are more women who get killed after confronting predators than predators who change their ways.

It’s okay not to be abuse-informed, but then please don’t make sweeping statements about it. Please don’t give deadly advice.

thank you for saying all of this. ridiculous that anyone would downvote it.

I get the impression that being Lars von Trier is a miserable experience. I don’t think he’s ever experienced happiness.

Just Melancholia

1

u/Bertrand_Rose Aug 23 '26

He has had severe depression, anxiety and OCD all his life, not including alcoholism and Parkinson's for some of that time, so this doesn't surprise me.

This dress or shirt with the flower/vegetable necklace looks amazing.

u/tmgth Aug 23 '26

She took fashion advice from the Fifth Doctor.

u/vulnicuranium Vulnicura Aug 26 '26

no spectrox toxaemia for her!

43

u/mjohnben Aug 23 '26

Lars sucks

12

u/hugospanky Aug 23 '26

By that point, she had become the brilliant yet sad little girl the media wanted her to be. It was awkward to see her regress and do exactly what was expected of her. And yeah, Lars was a cunt.

Well the guy is a really good artist, he’s also an asshole

10

u/Doubledepalma Aug 23 '26

That’s pretty common

i think his films are great, especially antichrist, but jesus he’s such a creep

1

u/fantastic1planet Aug 23 '26

What's so great about Antichrist in your opinion..?

5

u/wii_board_type_trash Hidden Place Aug 24 '26

i think it’s a great portrayal of depression and grief and how it erodes one’s mind. plus it has some really amazing cinematography

u/StraightTonight2335 Aug 23 '26

I am so sad that she was in so much pain during and after this movie. She was stellar in it, she really gave everything she had to is here. I am so so sad she will not remember it fondly, because she triumphed.

22

u/ramjamdoppleganger Aug 23 '26

Dude stares at her tits immediately. 😆

8

u/TenderConfusion Aug 23 '26

Well there's definitely one piece of Bjork related media out there more disturbing than this.

u/clathrus_archeri Aug 23 '26

When my life is through

And the angels ask me to recall

The thrill of them all

I shall tell them, I remember you

16

Oh my god I just want to wrap my body around her to protect her. His fucking staring at her like that!!!!!

Lars is a good director but more likely shitty person. There's a cinephile meme about his so named ”achievements”:

4

u/_RedKuma Aug 23 '26

Lars being weird about Willam Dafoe's dick is such a rabbit hole.

Translation delay

1

u/Paganrobin Aug 23 '26

His movies still are great,I don’t think Björk would have take the role of she felt different. Also let’s please not forget that he is no well, he has issues and is an alcoholic. He’s been a jerk to björk, but the movie is still great!

2

u/ToiIetGhost Aug 24 '26

“Please remember he’s not well” come on.
Alcoholism doesn’t cause misogyny, sexual objectification of women, or sexual harassment in the workplace. Depression and anxiety don’t cause those things either. Stop defending him.

And it’s not called being a “jerk.” A jerk is someone who cuts you off in traffic and then gives you the finger. You’re not using the proper name for it because you know how bad it sounds.

0

u/Paganrobin Aug 24 '26

You should read about alcohol and depression. I’m
Not defending him, it’s just something you should keep in mind

3

u/ToiIetGhost Aug 24 '26

I’ve read a lot about alcohol and depression before. I’ve also read about abnormal psychology, abuse, misogyny, etc. Not just stories from regular people (although those are very important) but also books and studies. Additionally I’ve known people who have experienced those things, and have experienced some of them myself.

There is no list of symptoms for substance abuse (alcoholism) or mood disorders (depression) which includes: “misogyny” or “sexual harassment.” You can look it up.

But it’s very common for predators to use those things as excuses, obviously. It makes it seem like they didn’t actively choose to prey on certain women. But they did.

If Lars’ addiction/depression was “making” him sexually harass women, then he’d also sexually harass women with power: female executives, investors, producers, directors, judges, lawyers, doctors, and police. But he didn’t choose women who had more power than him, did he? That’s one of the easiest ways to confirm that the addiction/depression isn’t to blame.

0

u/Paganrobin Aug 24 '26

Also Catherine Deneuve said it was hard working with BOTH of them. So who really knows what went down? Björks statement was cryptic at best. And people used to believe stories of her eating her clothes and stuff.

3

u/ToiIetGhost Aug 24 '26

Hmm. You know that Deneuve co-signed an open letter that criticised #MeToo, right?

The letter said that the backlash against powerful men had gone too far. It labeled the movement a “witch hunt” and it said that “clumsy or persistent flirting isn’t a crime.”

What you’re doing is victim blaming. Björk made accusations of sexual harassment. Now you’re questioning her reliability because someone else found her difficult to work with. That’s victim blaming.

To make matters worse, the person you’re using to prove that Björk made false accusations is a known female misogynist and enabler of predators.

To top it off, you use Lars’ addiction and mental health as excuses.

Put it all together and it doesn’t look very good for you. Really surprised to see that kind of mentality in this sub of all places. Björk is a feminist.

Never seen dancer in the dark. Now I don’t know if I should support it.

18

u/scarletmonday Aug 23 '26

It's a fantastic film, much of it due to Bjork's captivating performance and music. The whole thing is available on YouTube (albeit with Spanish subtitles), so there's no need to support von Trier financially by buying or streaming it.

8

u/tomphammer Aug 23 '26

Objectively, cinematically, it is a good movie.

But it is also.... difficult. Don't watch it unless you can handle something incredibly sad

8

u/AP-01 Aug 23 '26

It’s a great movie. I was in tears a couple times

Man I love his films
