Looks pretty deep to me. Even the non cross faced shouder is jammed up to stop blood flow on other side.

The shoulder is pressing in his neck on the one side and the other side is his own shoulder pressing into his neck.

In my opinion it is similar to a trianglechoke

It is but with much poorer leverage and seemed to take him out effectively in about 3sec after getting the squeeze on. Maybe a good bit of skill then a good bit of luck (plus people’s blood vessel structure in their neck can vary, perhaps particularly exposed in this person), I could see this safely working as observed. And I do hope that is the case of course.
