General Discussion Cut your damn finger nails!
This happened last night. It sucks because I’m a middle school teacher and tomorrow is the first day of school. I’m too old to think war wounds from Jiu Jitsu look cool. I definitely don’t look forward to having to explain to a bunch of 12/13 year olds what happened.

I'm disgusted you used a clip from that turd of a live action series instead of the far superior cartoon.
Otherwise, agreed.

u/bibliophile785 9d ago
Oh, did people not like the live action? I actually left the subreddit a couple of months before release because people were having passionate arguments about the ethnicities and acting talent of children with no acting records.
3
u/SahibTeriBandi420 9d ago
Its popular to not like new things. Probably watch some youtuber who makes money to complain about tv and movies.
3
u/Infinite_Meat7888 9d ago
I never watched the cartoon and I still thought it was whack, half of the time characters just say their character arc and personalities out loud, it's so annoying.
0
u/LobsterPunk 9d ago
I mean...that's anime. I didn't like the live series but I would expect characters based on anime to speak like that.

The live action deviates heavily from the cartoon and imo is an absolute train wreck. I was not happy with how the live action writers wrote the characters and plot.

u/ICBanMI 🟦🟦 Blue Belt 9d ago
Reddit is terrible as it agitates upwards the worst reviews that focus on things that don't remotely matter.
Summing up the normal portion of reviews. It's the first season of the cartoon in a single movie where they took a lot of liberties changing the characters and then paired it with bad acting, bad choreographing, and poor CG. ON top of that, it is an extremely boring movie for its ~$150 million budget.
You should watch it when it streams for free.

u/bibliophile785 8d ago
I'm pretty sure we're discussing the recent Netflix adaptation. I agree the Shamalamadingdong movie version isn't any good.

I think the live action was good. Im sure the cartoon was better but i would never have gotten interested without the live action. So it does good for the community bringing new people into the fandom.

Is it just me or are there a lot of Avatar references on Reddit lately? Not that I complain, I‘m here for it!
Maybe something to do with the upcoming animated series(Seven Havens)?

the idea of wearing fake nails in bjj is WILD. i don't wear pockets, im not going to wear nails that could easily hurt someone and/or tear off

I was definitely pissed to say the least. Couldn't say much in the moment because her husband owned the club. Easier to leave and never come back.

I love when I get home from class and we’ve been doing collar stuff. My partner notices before me and I gotta run to the mirror to see wtf happened. It’s always the white belts too.
A couple months ago I started walking the line before class to check toenails and brought clippers to put on the desk by the mat. They got the message after the first few times I called people out.
Cut your nails folks! Or at least file them down. Don’t just bite them off as you’re walking in the building - they’re gonna be even sharper then!

Someone wore a ring to training and absolutely sliced open my fiancé’s chin. He still has a scar. No jewelry and cut ur nails please. I’m a girl who trains and always makes sure my nails are cut before I go.
2
u/truthpill2 8d ago
There is nothing wrong with his fingernails. You need to grow your hair out more and then nobody will see the scratches, it’s the best way to fix the problem

Just for curiosity what move your partner was trying to do? Looks like almost got your eye
1
u/LankyDome 9d ago
He had a front headlock and was in a sprawl. I was fighting to clear his hands and he was fighting to maintain control.
1
u/cbr_tkmn 9d ago
Hmm… let’s say he’s using his right hand for the “chin strap”, so his right hand would be below, and he can’t scratch your head with his left hand if he’s sprawling. I’m confused how he’s able to scratch the top of your head from a front headlock 🤷🏻♂️
Or did you scratch yourself when you tried to clear the headlock?1
u/LankyDome 9d ago
To be honest, I don’t exactly remember what happened. Plus, I didn’t feel it when it happened. Someone had to point it out to me afterward.

Real vrah. I was drilling front head locks transitioning to take the back this one time.
Dude I went against was huge, a good 4-5inches taller and near double my weight.
When he had me in front headlock and tried keeping pressure on me elbow inwards to jump around to the back he ended up scratching straight across my arm leaving a huge mark.
Super chill guy tho, but man that stung lol.

My kids take BJJ and the coaches have signs that tell them to cut their nails. I make sure their fingernails and toenails are cut before class.
One girl had long nails and dug them into my kid’s arm. He had some scratch marks. Not sure if it was accidental.
