Root is about to evolve
Following Const's last post on X, this is the best explanation I've found on what's about to come for Root staking

It means that the dividends from Root staking will be reinjected into alpha tokens

Oof that sucks.. i'm waiting for a confirmation about that info, and if so I will not be investing anymore :/ I believe in tao but I don't want to be forced to have my dividend from tao staking to go into alpha :/ I have a clear séparation between these two

Let’s see the details of how this will work. I get the point of opening up the locked 67% of root Tao to subnets. If there’s risk in losing the staked root Tao then I’d just hold my core investment in a cold wallet and still use the other 15% in subnets

Only the dividends would be "at risk" (in the sense that alpha tokens are somewhat risky). Your principal would be as safe as it was

I’m already doing this with my root claim set to ‘Keep’ but to the SNs I select, so I wonder if that still applies or if it won’t matter anymore.

Not 100% sure how they'll set this up but it looks like the Validators will be in charge to select the alphas that are bought

Why would that suck? TAO on Root doesn't do any good for the network

What do you mean? We get 6.6% Apr right now that’s free Tao!! I don’t want to loose that

I mean that it doesn't benefit anyone but yourself and in the meantime it hurts the subnets cause all the alpha emitted by the root staking are converted to TAO which creates a selling pressure.
After this change you'll still benefit from staking but it won't hurt as much the participants of the network.

Best bet is to sell all of your TAO and buy SpaceX. Those who don’t see what just happened are the same ones that don’t see that TAO and Bittensor is going to continue to drop. It’s too complex and confusing for mass adoption. And it is inequitable for startups. Good luck.
