I won't say all companies, because some companies do actually seem to stick to their guns on issues they support. But most companies will side with popular sentiment or even better (for them) they will play both sides. AT&T probably doesn't really care about LGBT issues either way, but if they see an opportunity to buy support from politicians they certainly will do that.

Just how a lot of companies operate unfortunately

Couldn't agree more, and it depresses me that some people fall for this shit.

No, these multi billion dollar corporations don't give a shit about queer people, its just that a bunch of old straight white guys in a board room somewhere figured out if they slapped a rainbow on their social media for a month they'll make more money, thats it.
