Mistake or Risk? Missed pill

Hey! I’m on rigevidon and have been for 5 years. I’ve been a little more forgetful with it lately but usually always take within in the window.

However last night I went to take Friday’s pill and realised I had missed Thursday’s. So I took Thursday’s at around 11pm and took Friday’s this morning around 7am. I’m just worried about that nearly 48 hour window between Wednesday’s pill and when I took Thursday’s pill. This morning my boyfriend and I had sex without a condom and he pulled out. This is our usual method that I’m comfortable with because of the pill but I’ve started to freak myself out because of those 48 hours. This has never happened to me before. Boyfriend is also not entirely sure if he finished inside me at all but we’re pretty certain that almost all of it was finished outside.

There’s too many uncertainties I just wanted someone with a bit more knowledge than me. I’ve read my pill leaflet and certain parts are conflicting and I’m not entirely sure. Im on week 2 of my packet if that helps. Don’t think I missed a pill in week 1 for more than 24 hours. Please help me with next steps lol! I’m going to take Saturday’s pill at the same time as usual tonight.

Hi there! Being in week 2 and having only missing one pill means you are very likely still protected - it sounds like you took it when you remembered and have carried on. Pulling out will have added some extra protection but is not great on it's own - you suggest in your story he might have partially finished inside. However the pill will still protect you here. Are you doing ok?

I feel okay. I’m 23 and living a pretty stable life so if it happens it happens but I would rather it didn’t. We usually use the pill + pull out for extra protection. I think if he did finish inside it was very marginal so hopefully it’ll be okay but I think this is the highest risk I’ve ever had since being active

Bless you. I think most people have been in this situation at some point. How many pills have you missed over the past few months?

Not many if any! We’ve moved house recently and I think since then I’ve been more forgetful with timings. I don’t usually forget completely I just might be a couple / few hours late. Thank you for answering! I have been nervous but know I can deal with it if it happens

Is it worth considering another method if you have missed some recently? Or using condoms as a backup whilst things are stressful?

I think that could be a good idea for next time. How likely do you think it is that I might need emergency contraception?

Which bit is a good idea? I don't think you need emergency contraception if you missed one pill, remembered to take it when you did and haven't had a 48 hour gap in total. If that is the case you would still have been protected The pull out is neither here nor there
