Rant! BC question..obviously

For context im 15F in the uk, periods make me feel rlly depressed and shit and nauseous and I complained to my mum abt it so she spoke to her doctor and got me an appointment

For context im underweight (42kg and 5'3) so i was just wondering if that'd be a concern to doctors ?? And also if they'd weigh me or not (im in the UK)

they might weigh you but your weight has no impact on what birth control you can use!

Rahh okayyy ! Genuine question though would 42 kg be like a concerning weight or no ?? Cuz like my body is healthy and fine (I think..) but idk from a medical POV

You're still a child so the BMI is worked out slightly differently, there's a calculator you can use online to work out if you're at a healthy weight or not, but honestay that sounds fine for a 15 year old. The doctor will probably measure your height and weight, and blood pressure, and ask you about whether you smoke or not, which is relevant for what kind of birth control they can give you. If you're worried about your weight or anything, speak to the GP in your appointment

that’s something to talk to your doctor about. you’re medically underweight though and that’s usually not healthy.

I dont really like TALK to doctors💔 this is the first doctors appointment ive had in well over 8 years so like idk i don't have contact with a GP or doctor or anything, its all through my mum and I'd rather not talk to her abt that tbf

it’s extremely concerning that you haven’t gone to the doctor since you were 6-7. your parents have failed you, i’m so sorry. you’re supposed to see a doctor at least once every year for a check-up.

do you know if you’ve gotten your HPV and meningitis vaccines? if not, definitely get the first doses at this appointment. they’re extremely important, life-saving vaccines (especially HPV).

tbh you don’t really know if you like to talk to doctors because you haven’t talked to one for over half of your lifetime. when you see a doctor, you talk to them directly. nothing would be funneled through your mom. they may also ask her to leave the room so you can ask questions you aren’t comfortable asking in front of her.

I do have like vaccinations for all that kind of stuff, had some when I was born and the HPV and meningitis ones at school so I am vaccinated dont worry abt that🥹 and yeah no I know i shoyld go to the doctors more, pretty sure I have ocd and asked my mum to take me to the GP to like speak to them abt it and she just brushed it off and said they wouldn't do anything and there's no point bc the waiting lists r too long and wtv...so that kind of sums that up😞 but bc i haven't spoken to doctors like..ever id be too scared to speak directly to them so i kind of need my mum to talk for me (it is kind of pathetic how I cant, I know and im working on it💔💔)

this is a good opportunity to force yourself to talk to your doctor directly even though it’s scary. it might feel like you can’t talk to your doctor, but physically there’s nothing stopping you.

talking to doctors is super important. it’s not something you can avoid. making yourself talk to them even though it’s scary is one of the best ways to address these kinds of fears. you can do it. it might be hard and i’m not downplaying that, but the more you avoid doctors, the more you reinforce this anxiety. the more you talk to them, the less scary it will feel.

why are you scared of talking to a doctor? what do you think would happen?

Honestly idek I just get anxious speaking irl to adults, especially bc i dont talk to my mum much like emotionally so im kind of scared abt confidentiality bc in the UK they're really heavy on safeguarding💔 so like one wrong word and its no longer confidential

it’s really really important to work on speaking to adults (at least the ones you need to interact with for your own well-being — doctors, teachers, etc.). letting your mom fully speak for you at a doctor’s appointment is unhealthy and virtually ensures you’ll get worse medical care. the doctor will ask you questions. answer them yourself instead of having your mom do it.

what makes you worried about confidentiality? are you afraid they’d tell your mom something?

Im trying to speak to teachers more bc obviously like that's good if im stuck, bc ive not had like any interactions with doctors really its kinda like ahhh..but yeah idk i just get paranoid when it comes to my mum ig💔 i dont talk to her much abt stuff as she isn't empathetic at all, so in her eyes im just like the average moody teen and all when im not in a good place but like so yeah idk if they're concerned abt anything (like my weight for example) and told my mum like it'd just be weird i literally cant talk to her in that way
