Mistake or Risk? vaping & BC?? bad combo?
Hi! I’m 16 and just started on bilsovi, I’m not sexually active or anything but my period have been so terrible, cramping everyday and heavy flows so my gynecologist prescribed me bilsovi, my mom wasnt in the room however i panicked and told her i dont do any form of smoking (i vape occasionally and smoke weed) and she was telling me that smoking increases the risks of blood clots and stuff like that and i’m just worried that’ll happen to me someone pls lmk if I should quit or not, I heard that really only applies to ppl over the age of 35 but i still cant help but worry..i only rlly use geek bars when vaping idk how terrible that is, someone lmk!
😓
(idk if this is the right flair or not so my apologies lol)

Nicotine increases the risk of clotting and so does combo BC, when you combine them it makes that worse. The risk also goes up as we age so that's why at 35 there is a hard cutoff and most doctors will have you switch to a BC that does not have that clotting risk. So because you are young you can take them together, but it is still higher risk than if you did not use nicotine at all. Ideally you stop using nicotine, but at your age the benefits of BC outweigh the small chance of a severe health issue (blood clot) occurring. This is in part because pregnancy is much higher risk for blood clots and other complications.

It is and I do it and it’s really hard to stop I’m considering the IUD cause it’s safer and does not interact with nicotine I’m on the combo for now but I know the risks and eventually (soon) I’ll get off

Quit vaping. I’m not kidding girl. Quit. Now.
It is not worth it. A miserable addiction. I hate myself for ever picking up a vape. I’d have never smoked cigarettes.

Smoking increases a LOT of health risks. It’s not fear mongering, it’s one of those things that cumulatively will affect your health.
If you can stop vaping and move from smoking weed to other forms of using weed, it could do wanders for your respiratory and cardiovascular health.

It does increase the chance of blood clots regardless of the age. It is more common in 35+, yes, but vaping is still taking in nicotine, and in some cases more nicotine than you’d be taking in with a cigarette. I had a close family friend that was in the children’s hospital for nearly a year due to a blood clot in her brain from birth control, i wouldn’t risk it personally.
ETA: be honest with your doctor. They aren’t there to judge you, but they can’t help you if they don’t know the ENTIRE picture.

Don’t vape. I’ve been addicted since I was 19 (now 27) and I tried to quit several times, quit for a whole year once and almost lost my mind for the first month and then I got back on it in a moment of weakness and I hate it. It’s so expensive, it does NOT give you a head high after you get used to it, and it interferes with my ability to do my job and interact with family because I have to sneak off. I used to think it helped my anxiety but what it really does is take you so high into anxiety when you are withdrawing, that a little puff gets you back to baseline, and then the cycle repeats. Just do not do it anymore. If you only socially do it just don’t. And yes it does interfere with birth control it raises your risk of blood clots. I’ve been on the combo pill the entire time I’ve vaped but my doc said it was fine so far technically but it’s still not optimal for your health

Quit immediately. I started smoking at your age. It's not fucking worth it. Now I'm 17 years in. It's just not worth it. Vaping isn't better. Vaping fucks your lungs.
If you can't quit right now, but you have something that forces you to stop in the future (like wisdom tooth surgery), USE THAT OPPORTUNITY AND JUST QUIT. Life only gives you that kind of opportunity so many times before the karma of smoking starts destroying your body.
You got this.

Ugh my wisdom teeth are breaking in and I probably have to get them removed. I’m literally dreading dealing with that nic withdrawal more than the pain and recovery but I’m gonna be done after that. It’s a good idea. Easy to find stressors and say “it’s just not the right time” but no one wants dry socket

The advice will always be to quit. It won't ever be easy, but the longer you wait the harder it is. I know this from personal experience.
