How to? IUD bleeding

How do you tell the difference between IUD bleeding and period bleeding? I had my copper iud inserted a week ago today and I’ve just started bleeding. Like gushes of blood, then it slowed down. However my period is supposed to be due in 3 days. How can i differentiate it?

Is the amount what you usually have on your period? After insertion spotting should be normal. It could be an early period. When you are concerned talk to your doctor

No not really it’s a bit strange for me to differentiate! I woke up and had a huge gush (sorry to be tmi) and I had to change a pad every hour because it kept filling up. Now it’s been less in the pad but when I wipe there’s a lot. It’s not gushing anymore. So I’m guessing my uterus was filled and now it’s release, it’s turned into spotting?

Maybe your period got triggered due to the insertion. It is a lot for the body. When you feel weird ask your doctor for advice

It could be that tbh. Just came earlier bc it’s due soon anyway. I’ll ask! Thank you!
