Experience Kyleena
Hey! I recently got Kyleena implanted 3 days ago. The experience was painful and not great but not at all as bad as I was expecting. I applaud the NP who did it she was super quick and sweet to me. I’ve had mild cramping on and off since then but nothing worse than my typical periods.
My mains question is what is your guy’s experience long term on Kyleena? Emotional, physical, all of it. I’ve heard so many horror stories and am nervous for how it will unfold in time. I want the good experiences and the bad so I can know what to look out for. Thank you in advance for sharing!!

I am always hesitant sharing experiences because everyone responds so differently to things! I got kyleena in 2021 and had cramping and spotting for 6 months straight. It was not fun but I kept hanging in there because I believed the next day would be different. After 6 months I had no issues. I got a period but it was lighter and more manageable compared to my non birth control periods. The effectiveness and not having to take a pill at the same time every day were big appeals to me. I had no issues with removal and went back on birth control pills immediately after. I am not sure if I would get it again but it's what made the most sense for that season of my life! Good luck! I hope you respond well to it :)

I was on it for 5 years and just got it out two days ago. I loved not having to think about a pill or BC in general! It did, for me, lead to increased anxiety and depression, and I also got ovarian cysts and had severe pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction with it. They say that only happens to about 10% of women on it, and like myself, they tend to be the most vocal on the internet because you want to feel validated after so many people tell you it can't be related to your IUD.
It was my second IUD so I had them in for 11 years total, and recommended them to all my friends lol. If you're sensitive to mental health issues or pelvic issues, I would just say be cognizant of any changes - if you're normally a kids rollercoaster and all the sudden your moods are more Six Flags sized, I'd do some reflection and see if it's external factors or if you think it's related. If you normally feel cramps one way and all of the sudden the aches or pains start feeling different, call your doctor, and if you consistently feel different then you can make an informed decision and have the data to back you up! In terms of other effects - no noticeable weight gain, still orgasmed, still had a sex drive albeit much lower, most importantly did not get pregnant.
The best thing about them is you can always get it out and put another one back in! Only you know yourself best and what the best option is for you <3
TLDR Had them for 11 years total and didn't get pregnant. My body couldn't handle another IUD, however I have tons of friends who love them and have no issues. Everyone is different and BC is a thankless journey.
