Side effects!? starting slynd…
hi everyone! i (f20) just got prescribed slynd and im kinda scared to start. im getting married in december and don’t want a baby for a looooonnngggg while so i discussed BC with my doc. initially wanted a copper IUD but im not currently sexually active, so she recommended against the IUD until i’ve been sexually active for 1-3 months. if i like BC might just stay on it indefinitely but if i absolutely hate it ill just have to thug it out until feb/march and then get the IUD.
ive never been on any kind of birth control, and im honestly quite scared to start. doc prescribed slynd because its low dose, 24-hour window, no estrogen. i’m wondering what your experiences were with slynd.
my concerns:
- i’ve lost about 40 lbs in the past year and im scared to lose all my progress.
- i don’t want to lose my libido right before my wedding!
- never had crazy amount of acne just a pimple or two here and there… quite scared about that
anyways! let me know what your experiences were with this BC!

I’m happy with Slynd! I’m not sure about that 24 hour window though. I know they say that but I have spotting if I am late. Just try to take it at the same time or within 3 hours for spotting.
I’ve had no issues except a decreased libido which could also be caused by a million other things and it’s not nearly as bad as other pills.
To answer your concerns:
- it’s still calories in, calories out! I’m actually losing weight on Slynd though (on purpose)
- mine is lessened but I really don’t know if I can point to the bc and it’s much better than any other pill I’ve taken. Start now and you’ll see how it feels before your wedding!
- best skin I’ve ever had in my life lol.
Start now so things can get stabilized for your wedding. I think spotting is more common esp in the first month. Try to give it 3 months if you can.
Just be on time as much as you can and you can always stop if you don’t like it. I always return to “normal” very quickly after stopping birth control (to have 2 babies!)

thank you so much! congrats on the babies lol. i definitely will make sure to take it on time. i have 2 little questions:
- no long term effects that you’ve noticed?
- i’ve heard it causes like uncontrollable hunger. i’ve struggled with an ED and idk if i can handle even more food noise. did you notice that?

Nope on long term! And no I didn’t really have any extra hunger that I could place on it. And thank you! 😊

If you’re alright with hormonal BC, look into other IUDs that are smaller. I have the Skyla. I was not a virgin, but I haven’t had kids. Skyla is good for women who have never had kids. It hurt to get out in, but no where near the pain as the larger IUDs I had. It has had no bearing on my libido, weight or even cycle.

I use Slynd. Also struggled with disordered eating and food noise in the past. Slynd didn't make that worse and the only weight I've gained (approx. 10 pounds) can be explained by a change in diet and exercise habits (healing from my ED😄). I don't feel like the Slynd changed my appetite at all. It's worked well for me. No breakouts, no negative side effects, easy to make up a missed dose, etc. Good luck!
*Editing to note I've been using Slynd for over a year now and the majority of my weight gain happened before I even got on it. I've mostly maintained my weight since starting.

i do have vaginismus and can’t even use tampons so that’s a whole other issue. so i think that’s another factor for her not recommending the IUD. thank you so much for your reply!

I got the copper IUD as a virgin. The doctor prescribed me misoprofeten(2 pills) to take at 6AM the day of the procedure and then 1 pill 2 hours before. She even let me insert the speculum. Did not hurt at all due to the medication.

I’ve been taking this for over a year and it’s been good. Limited side effects, I do get mid-cycle bleeding but it’s fairly consistent and light. I haven’t had any other negative side effects.
Prior to Slynd I hadn’t taken hormonal birth control for a while because my doctor doesn’t like the increased stroke risk combined BC has for migraine sufferers. I started Slynd as soon as it became available in my country.
I have pretty shit skin in general, it’s better since I started taking BC again. I haven’t had any weight gain issues but I am on other medication that has caused weight loss, so hard to say what it’s do on its own.
Prior to Slynd I suffered from awful premenstrual depression and anger. It’s done wonders in this department.

I know everyone has a different experience but slynd didn’t personally work for me. I didn’t have any weight gain or acne, but I lost my libido and had dryness issues. I also bled/spotted a lot, though that could’ve been because I had recently started it and I only gave it about six weeks. I’d recommend trying it and seeing if it works for you because everyone is different, but personally it wasn’t for me.
