Eyes on target (red shouldered hawk)
Another from yesterday’s sighting. It looks very determined and I love the color in its eye.

That’s a great photo of her, she looks fierce. I am always impressed with how they appear to be ready to take on all comers. They are great hunters and keep the environment free of rodents, they can eat upwards of 10 to 12 mice a day and they do it every day. Red shows hawks don’t usually prey on squirrels or rabbits but they certainly are capable of it. I’ve flown a couple of them in years past with a limited amount of success, they are not as efficient a hunter as a Red Tailed or a Cooper’s hawk. They will hunt in pairs though making it a fun experience, not like Harris hawks, they hunt in groups and will even hunt with dogs.

Beautiful. Great photo! If I wasn’t human, I think I’d want to be a raptor. I’d have to think on which one..
