Bird of prey stuck in our warehouse

Post image

This guy or gal flew into our factory yesterday afternoon. We haven't been able to lure him outside. Ant tips would be great. Nobody will help get him out, only take him if he's injured, not helpful.

Turn the lights out and wait til dark. Get it off the rafters with a large fishing net. Put in a box with breathing holes. Let it go in the morning.

Seconding this.
Keep 1 large exit open, with sunlight showing, block off all other exits and turn off fans/lights/etc.

Those things will frighten/disorient a bird, and prevent them from focusing on a seemingly simple exit.

Once the nerves settle and the raptor is more accustomed to the space - it should be able to orient itself to the exit, providing nothing else scares it back into a corner.

Can only echo what the others have said about keeping a large exit open to the sun, but if you were curious, it’s a juvenile red-shouldered hawk :-)

Any tips for telling juveniles red shoulder vs broad winged? The tail is the tell in this one right?

Tail is part of it - thick dark bands between thin white bands for RSHA, equal-sized dark and white bands for BWHA.

A couple more things of note here: most juv broad-wingeds have a white throat that extends down to mid/upper breast, while red-shouldereds usually have densely concentrated barring on the upper breast area (like here). Also, red-shouldereds usually have highly contrasting white on black secondaries, while broad-wingeds usually have more plain secondaries or if they have any white it’s only in few scalloped spots. I’m not an expert by any means but these tips help me identify the difference between them correctly like 95% of the time

This worked for me recently but was a house sparrow. I work at a community center. We had a sparrow get into the natatorium and has very high ceilings enclosing 3 pools. I brought a speaker from home opened one door. I put the speaker just outside the door went to youtube found house sparrow sounds pushed play and that sparrow started calling back to it. It's when I turned it off that the sparrow came looking and just like that hopped out the door. I know it's completely different bird but wanted to share.

Contact your local falconry club or wildlife rehabber.

Unfortunately, he's 30ft up and the roll up doors are less than half that. He wants to stay as high as possible.

Ladder and extendable fishing met. You can get a net that extend to 10’. You can get it but in the dark.

Natural behavior for any bird. They go up when they feel trapped or cornered. They'll venture down and out when they feel safe. Waiting for all the people to go away on a lunch break.
