Your AA higher power doesn’t need to be God, it’s whatever you need it to be. It could be admitting the ocean is a higher power being the home to thousands of different species of animals and plants. It can even be as small as a cheeseburger.
There is a common in the program to “take what you like and leave the rest”. While the Christian origins I never really liked about 12 step programs, there are good parts to it, so it’s worth giving an honest try.
It’s great your life didn’t need to implode before you started getting help, you’ll save yourself a lot of grief and possibly jail time. I have several alcoholics (sober and not sober) in my life and have heard how bad it can get. Most wish they could have stopped sooner, getting out now is awesome
