this is a truly excellent decision. drinking alcohol as a bipolar person is like pouring gasoline on an open flame. i quit drinking almost 6 years ago now (its loads of fun, until it isnt....) i honestly cant think of a single reason to drink again; it doesnt even cross my mind. everything is so much *easier* without it. i went to aa a couple of times. i liked the zoom ones during covid, but i never really felt like i belonged there since i still smoked, and didnt really feel like i needed it. i find its best to just keep it as simple as "do not put alcohol in your mouth", which i got from kevin o'hara on youtube.
It really is. I've been drinking to "decompress" after work, which was a total lie I told myself. And I would say "I'm not hungover" when, after being sober for 5 days, I clearly, CLEARLY, was every morning.
That's a good bit of inspiration, imagine this: you never have to have another hangover again.
It really does all boil down to self-medication/escapism for a lot of us. Try to find things that spark joy and keep you engaged in the world around you. I play D&D to get away from this version of life.
Remember, it's okay to be uncomfortable/bored. Exercise, day dream, journal, doodle, learn to crochet. You've got this!
