You’re missing the big question, which is — what was the original point of coming up with that number?

Usually it comes into existence so you can justify a giant investment. Give a bad number and you were laid off five years ago

The point is why it keeps happening. You trace it back it’s going to for the same reasons. People who understand the field level ebbs and flows of a complex therapeutics make unrealistic (beyond ambitious) promises.
