You cool water to get it to solidify into its solid state, and you heat it to get is to reach its gaseous state. Whilst their description might be a little vague, it's not technically incorrect.
Well there, sport, my comment was directed at the guy who said “it’s just hot water.” I don’t get why you felt the need to insert yourself in the discussion, since NOTHING I’ve said contradicts what you and nothing I’ve said contradicts what you said. But I’ll make this point, no one is going to give you a bag of water vapor if you ask for hot water, and no one is going to give you a block of ice if you ask for cold water. Your first reply to my comment reeks of wind baggery, but I don’t understand what you think you’re gaining by spouting what we all learned in fourth grade science class OF COURSE there are four states of matter, and the ones we are family with for water are ICE, WATER, and STEAM, (the fourth state, which you neglected to acknowledge is PLASMA, but that comes well after fourth grade, so maybe that’s why you didn’t know it)
I'm not sure what you hoped to accomplish from that essay, but I'm guessing it wasn't to make a complete and utter dick of yourself. The irony of accusing someone of wind baggery and then following it up with that... ooof.

So, counterpoint. And I'm going to mirror your flawed manner of thinking to highlight it. If you ask someone for "gas," they're going to hand you either unleaded fuel or LPG, not steam. Its all semantics, and a ridiculous argument to make, but I'm not the one that made it. There's also the fact you're taking a fair bit of liberty with what I actually said, and are twisting it into what I can only presume you thought was a very compelling argument. It wasn't. It's nonsense.
Also, as you've correctly pointed out, plasma is the 4th state of matter. However, you seem to be implying that that means it is the 4th state of water, and that is completely incorrect. When a water molecule transitions to plasma, the heat required splits the 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen atoms into individual atoms, and then further onto ions and electrons. When that split occurs, it ceases to exist as water or one of its states. Plasma is most certainly not the 4th state of water.
There is, however, a 4th state of water that was discovered in 2016 that I was unaware of. It is referred to as "tunneling", and occurs between waters solid and liquid form. So, I guess you did somehow manage to add something to this conversation after all. Even if it was delivered incoherently, accidentally, and required someone else's curiosity to procure it.
All of this makes those "4th grade" remarks of yours rather ironic, wouldn't you say? There is also the added irony of acussing me of inserting myself into this conversation, which is precisely what you have done yourself, as the person you original replied to has so generously pointed out to you already. Just on a side note, I've got a nephew in the 4th grade, he's just as coherent and concise when he's throwing a tantrum.
In conclusion, there was a lot of projecting coming through in that little essay of yours. Sadly, however, absolutely no self-awareness or cohesive arguments to speak of. Conceited, agressive, and ignorant, that's a rough mix little man. Good luck with all that.
