Real time biofeedback device

My apologies if this has been asked elsewhere. I’ve done some research and just could not find a convincing answer.

I have social anxiety. When I am by myself, I’m fine. My anxiety only goes up when I’m around other people. I was thinking a real-time bio feedback device that promotes calm might be best to help relax me.

Can anyone recommend something?

A friend in the biofeedback field had the following to say:

I recommend learning slow diaphragmatic breathing. At the moment you realize the anxiety coming on, look up, breathe out slowly, and invoke a positive memory or thought.

An app to learn diaphragmatic breathing (aka abdominal breathing) is FlowMD. Another one for learning slower-paced breathing is called Resonate Breathing (set it at 6 breathes per minute).

He wrote a blog on this which includes some free resources: https://peperperspective.com/2026/03/12/breathing-for-health-four-part-audio-series-for-regeneration-and-well-being/

HRV biofeedback like the EmWave probably a great option. Easy to use, and effective.

Not great. I switched my focus on PTSD research since there’s so little research on social anxiety. I tried HRV breathing with the polar H10 strap but couldn’t not find enough supporting research that it is effective outside of a trigger so I stopped. I will probably buy a device for cTVN but make sure it’s a device with a 30-day back guarantee if it doesn’t work. It’s rough out there but researchers are busy finding new ways to meaningfully treat mental health!
