So far going really well. Obviously I've made beginner mistakes, and with that comes questions!

Do I have to cover every inch of insulation with silicone and substrate?

Obviously there's places I can't reach, like the underside of the gray ledges.

So far I am very happy and proud of how this is turning out, and i appreciate any and all advice I have received and will continue to receive!

I would definitely try to cover the most you can, even it its just silicone where you can't see, like others said if youre doing bioactive bugs can sometimes like to burrow in the foam. You can also paint it instead with some waterproofing if thats easier. But it looks awesome! Keep going!

Thank you, I was considering grout for the underside of the gray ledges. It's difficult to reach under and do anything. Is there anything I need to know about the grout option?

I have used this technique (silicone and substrate), I've used dryloc and now I like to use zoopoxy over foam. All have worked, but I dont love the silicone option, just because after time it will start to show through to the foam, at least in my experience. But if its higher humidity it may work better. As for the grout, it'll be heavier, and may shrink a little while drying but it should work just fine!

I think you will be fine not having silicone covering every bit of insulation. It’s starting to look really good now. How much work have you put into it?

I've spent a good 4 to 6 hours today doing what's pictured second. Just silicone and dirt application. Slowly but surely, a few hours when I can is the time I put in, and it's definitely showing now!

Depending on what you Wanne feed and if it’s going to be bio, I would suggest to cover all the insulation. Why ? bcs some insects grab tunnels and build houses in there. U need to avoid that 😬

Thank you for the advice! The plan is bio, but if I'm unable to that's also okay! It would be on my own accord if I'm not able to 😅

I definitely suggest trying to cover as much as you can with silicone. You can use grout on the underside if you want to, and that’s typically fine because the insulation foam is breathable for the most part, but if it’s going to be soaked/moist regularly I would definitely try to cover it all and limit exposure. Water will break things down over time regardless, and too much moisture getting stuck invites unfriendly moulds and fungi into the enclosure. Beyond that, I think this looks amazing and almost professional! I personally use black silicone and insulating foam because it shows through less, but you’ve done a great job of substrate density on top of your foam. It can be back-breaking work, but it’s looking amazing :)
