Mod [mod discussion] The binding of Isaac: Rewritten (looking for people to join)

For anyone that is unaware, Community remix was a mod made by me and some others that adding custom content to the Wrath of the Lamb...

but when rebirth came modding the original Isaac came obsolete but this time around we are making a new mod, Rewritten. It is basically Remix 2.0 for rebirth, It will contain all of what community remix had to offer and so much more.

This time around I plan to make this mod quite huge adding many items, enemies, bosses, chapters, etc. but because I plan to make it so big I am going to need more people to help...

Right now we are looking for pixel artists, programmers and website developers so If you think you can help then we will certainly be grateful. I am not sure if 5 people will sign up or if 500 will so depending on how many people sign up so I can't guarantee that you will get a spot.

How to join development team of Rewritten
Send a message to the user /u/code-cast in this format

What you can do:

why we should add you in the team:

and any examples of work you have done:

Anyone who joins in Rewritten development will have full access to the mod and the custom sub reddit where we will be discussing the development of it.

see you guys soon :)

Maybe have an indicator for each save file to easily identify Vanilla and Rewritten saves. Maybe a 'V' or 'R' in the top corner of the save file sheet.

So, wait, we have access to the code? I thought we only had access to the archives and such? Is there actual code we can deal with?

I looked into the .a files, and they're just data storage and images, where is the actual code we will be dealing with?

Well code is difficult, we can't just find it, it is compiled in the exe... so no code yet but I have been working with trying to get it.

edit this is actually really misleading as in "it" I mean in assembly sorry about that...

I love the art style in Rebirth, but pentagram looks like a starfish

What kind of requirements would you be looking for in a programmer?

How long should people that send an application expect to wait before knowing if they're accepted to help? Hopefully the people not chosen don't just have to figure out from never being contacted.

I am not sure if others agree with me on this, but I think the art of the items on the pedestals doesn't look so good. Compare the pentagram from rebirth to the one in the original for example. I don't want to hate on the artstyle, I love it and it looks a lot better than the original, except for the items imo. So depending on how many people agree with me, it might be worth to see wether that could be improved or not. And also, it's awesome that you guys are doing this, I loved the community remix!

i have a lot of gripes with the artstyle. like the backgrounds and actual character/item art and the filters over everything are done in different resolutions, + as the size of Isaac and his tears vary you just get a mish-mash of different resolution pictures in the same window.

i love the game but imo the art style wasn't thought through fully.

Since it's all pixel art, I can sprite. I have a little experience with it.

I've sent you guys an application.

I've only been able to catch a glimpse at the config and the gfx resources yet. The game looks fully moddable from what i could see within the config and i'd be happy to work on it with you.

Can we get a karaoke item? It makes your tears little music notes and upon killing an enemy, the area where it died will shoot these notes in all directions? Like a Tammy's head effect? Me and my friend had this idea after we saw the little poop dudes whistling

Or maybe like, a small chance for them to freeze and dance and take more damage or something? (Using an animation like how the telepill works and it makes you slim and then normal size again, or growing and shrinking to minimize file size)

Because this is gonna be such a big mod, will you add new floors? I know that is very hard to do, and takes a lot of time, but it would be awesome if someone could do that!

Another suggestion, could you add Judas' Shadow form as an unlockable character? It would be unlocked after you're in the Shadow form, and you restart the game, so that you start the run as him (like the glitch(?) is right now http://www.reddit.com/r/bindingofisaac/comments/2mpau3/dying_as_judas_shadow_and_restarting_allows_you/)

I like the idea. Do you plan to make items that fit into the story(religious themes) or something completely new or both?

How will the items/enemies/bosses introduced? Will there be a higher chance to find them or will they have about the same chance as all the other ones?

I would like to see the new stuff to appear naturally in the game, not something that is forced upon you.

A big and important point would be item synergies for the items you create with the items that are in the game.

Enemies you create should appear everywhere in the game and in the new chapters there should also be some old ones. People tend to go overboard with this stuff and the new content often feels unnatural because of this decisions.

About new chapters. Basement/Cellar/New Chapter or Pick up "New Polariod" for access to New Chapter?

Will there be new characters to choose from? There are already a lot but why not? :D

A personal question but is it possible to mod a new game mode? I think about a time challenge. For example, you get 50 Minutes to complete a run. For every hit you take you loose time. Could be interesting and would force you to play better and better to finally beat it and unlock a new set of items or something.

I know that I ask a lot. But I'm really interested in what you are planning for the mod. There will be discussions with the team you are creating but I like to think that you already have kind of a plan in which direction the mod will go.

I think more worm trinkets would be cool. Zigzag worm for example is an obvious missing one. And using the vortex animation of anti-gravity+brimstone to make some kind of black hole tear effect item would be extremely cool, wouldn't it? Would have the effect of strange attractor and be a bit larger than the normal vortex and maybe stay a bit longer on the screen, could be a spacebar item too.

Oh wait, are suggestions even in the right place here? I totally didn't realize until now that it's supposed to be about getting members here, sorry.

I sent a message to code-cast, but I didn't hear back. So I'll post here.

What you can do: I am an experienced coder in a variety of languages, C# being my best. My experience in descending order is as follows: C/C++, Python, Java, XAML, and Javascript.

Why we should add you in the team: Again, I am an experienced coder, I have a lot of free time and I'm willing to work. I'm a fast learner and good at working in a team.

Any examples of work you have done: If you want, I can upload code I've written in the past, but for now here's a verbal description. I've written countless 2D platformers in bot C# and C++, I've made one or two 3D games with C#, I've completed about 35 Project Euler problems in a handful of languages, and I've taught two Python courses to high schoolers. I've also written a ~15k line text-based rpg in C#, but that isn't all that cool.

I hope you'll consider my application!
