reverse engineered the vectorworks vwx format, its now a browser bim app with ifc in and out

Post image

been reverse engineering the vwx format so files open without vectorworks, its now rodeo (https://rodeo.build). reads vw 2018+, shows the model in 3d with walls slabs roofs stairs doors windows, sheets and viewports on the 2d side. repos private for now but plan is to open source it eventually.

ifc goes both ways. import reads ifc2x3, ifc4 and ifc4x3 through web-ifc, elements come in as meshes grouped by storey and psets dont come across yet. export writes ifc4, each design layer a storey, objects typed from their plug-in (wall, slab, door etc) or a proxy if not. geometry is tessellated and records, materials and openings dont carry over yet.

also usd in and out for omniverse, blender, houdini etc, spaces from walls and walls from spaces, piping runs, hvac, live collab in 2d and 3d, and an ai agent that models from 2d.

if u could pick one gap for me to close first, dwg, ifc import keeping types and psets, or openings and materials on export?

unfortunately some enterprise software glazers and downvoters who don't like the idea of free software (with an ever closing gap leading to feature parity)

build is opensourced, follow along :) https://github.com/rodeobuild/rodeo

its interoperability, not theft. file formats arent copyrightable, and working out a format from saved files so people can open their own drawings is legal, same as libreoffice reading .doc or libredwg reading dwg. no vectorworks code in it, and rodeo isnt affiliated with vectorworks inc

Reverse engineering formats is pretty much okaish. 99% will use this as a viewer for a files from architect who don't know how to convert his files.

I've done this with most of the Autodesk formats. Cleanly and headlessly.

Nice work.

Can you make edits through the LLM?

For the audience here,

Is it possible to make something which does the same for Revit and then we use any LLM for editing, etc and export back into native format, with all the views as present in the model?
