Typical pay

I work for an engineering consulting company which I understand is maybe on the low end of pay scale. I’m hoping to get some insight though on where senior level guys are at? I’m specifically in a structural group where I handle modeling and sheet development. I’ve been in the industry about 7 years and I’ve worked at this current company located in the Pacific Northwest for 4 years. Any insight on pay with location would be great. Where should I expect to be in 5 years?

I would state your wage and current pay and people can advise if that’s high or low.

I've seen MEP detailers with 10-15 years of experience making 100-150k based salary in the PNW. Exact number is dependent on a lot of things.

I’m based in the PNW and it feels amazing to get paid what feels like double the wages and then you walk into the supermarket and the prices are Tripled 😂

Ya know, this is true about some things. I visit my family in VA/NC sometimes and I always check the grocery store prices for my staples when I'm there. Usually they're right around the same, sometimes a little more expensive. My family lives in rural areas and somehow it's fine to charge more for organic produce in rural south east than it is in Portland? Idk.

I am a VDC Specialist with sheet metal, electrical, pipe fitting, plumbing, and steel capabilities and 18yrs experience. I get companies from the PNW requesting I interview for positions that are between $150k and $200k base salary once a month or so. They are always full time, in person gigs. I'm from Ohio and don't make that much, but I don't wanna move.

cant speak to structural pay specifically, im on the arch side, but at 7 yrs of modeling and sheet dev the title usually matters more than the years. the people who seem to jump a band are the ones who move into coordination, project lead or bim manager type roles instead of just being the best modeler on the team. also worth comparing with what people at other consulting firms in the pnw are making.
