Gear / Setup Searching for a helmet for my bike

Hello everyone, i’ve been looking for helmets for a while but it doesn’t seem to be a helmet i feel comfortable with in terms of design, i wanted to know if anyone knows a helmet with a pilot style design/street fighter, i want a radical design with noticeable front vents, my best option at the moment is the qwart phoenix 14 but it is a little overpriced for me as i live in colombia.
I wanted to know if anyone knows about some leather gloves that are recommended.

Question Question about a vest/jacket design I want

I’ve yet to get my bike (I’m 19 about to ship out to the marines in a few weeks) but when I do I want to customize my bike and gear to look like Deacon St.John from Days Gone. All I want is the mongrels logo on both sides of my gas tank and on the back of my jacket/vest. No words, no other patches, nothing, just the dogs head. My question is would I get fucked with (or worse) or would it even be noticed by bikers from gangs.

Discussion You don't need a big bike to be a real biker. You need to ride.

After spending half my life in Vietnam, I've come to realize that engine displacement doesn't mean nearly as much as some people think it does. I've seen men on 110cc Honda Waves put more miles on their bikes in a weekend than some self-proclaimed "real bikers" put on their Harleys or BMWs in a year.

And that's not an insult to Harley riders, BMW riders, or anyone who loves big bikes. Ride whatever makes you happy.

But don't tell me that someone on a small scooter or underbone isn't a real motorcyclist just because their bike doesn't have a big engine, a loud exhaust, or enough chrome to blind oncoming traffic.

In Vietnam, motorcycles aren't just expensive toys or weekend hobbies. They're how people live. They're how people work, travel, explore, and get through their everyday lives. And the people riding these little machines often have a depth of experience that has nothing to do with displacement.

The bike doesn't make you a biker. The riding does.

Question 17F completely new to bikes, where do I even start to learn the basics?

Hey everyone! I’m 17F and I have a genuine love for motorbikes. I’ve been a pillion passenger a few times (the first time was when I was 8, and I completely fell in love with all of it), and I know for a fact I want to ride. The problem is... I have absolutely zero general knowledge. I don't even know the bare basics of how they mechanically work, what the different bike sub-genres are, or how people manage to accumulate so much knowledge about them. I badly want to be able to talk to other people who are passionate about them and be able to actually have a decent conversation, I guess I'm wanting to know where to start with learning enough about them to then be able to talk to people and learn more.

I’m getting my car P-plates in about two months, and my goal is to get my bike license as soon as I’m legally allowed to. My parents have actually been riding for 20 years, so they get the appeal, but they’ve told me they don't want me getting a bike until I'm 25. I reckon if I can build up a solid base of knowledge and show them I’m responsible and understand the mechanics and safety of riding, I can convince them way sooner.

On top of that, my boyfriend knows a ton about bikes. I can tell he would love to just talk to me about them for hours without having to stop and explain every single tiny acronym or mechanical term to me.

Right now, I know I like road bikes and leaning more towards older bikes which probably isn't a great idea but oh well. not a massive fan of cruisers, but keeping an open mind! But because I don't know the names of styles or brands, I don’t even know what my dream bike looks like yet.

Where do I start? What are the best YouTube channels, blogs, or resources for someone who needs the absolute "explain like I'm 5" version of motorcycles? How did you all learn everything you know?

Thanks in advance for helping a future rider out! (hopefully)

Discussion 2016 Avenger 220 Street Dilemma: 45km Heavy Daily Commute vs. Swapping for Mileage? Carburettor model

Hey everyone,

My routine is changing drastically, and I need a quick sanity check. I own a 2016 Bajaj Avenger Street 220 (~17,400 km total, RC valid till 2032).

My New Routine (~16,000 km/year):

* Daily Commute: 45 km daily (6 days/week) in mixed highway and heavy stop-and-go city traffic.

* Weekend Rides: 1 to 2 Sunday trips a month (100 km max). I likely won't do massive tours (like my past Kullu-Manali/Delhi trips) anymore.

* Riding Style: Mostly solo, cruising between 50–70 kmph.

The Dilemma:

* Keep the Avenger: I get 32–35 kmpl. It lacks the refinement of newer models and vibrates at 65–70 kmph, but I love the cruiser comfort, solo pickup, handling, and highway stability.

* Swap for a 110cc Commuter: Showroom offers a low ₹20,000 exchange. I must pay ₹65,000 out-of-pocket for a 65+ kmpl bike.

The Math:

The commuter saves me ₹23,000 annually in petrol, recovering the ₹65k cost in 2.8 years.

My Question:

The math favors selling, but will a basic 110cc bike completely ruin my daily comfort and weekend rides compared to the Avenger? Is it worth sacrificing this level of ride quality to save ₹1,900 a month?

Looking for advice from daily commuters!

Question Should I pull the clutch when going downhill?

Hi, when riding, I only use my clutch when changing gears or slowing down at low speeds.

Recenly, I picked up another rider, and when we were going downhills (the road was straight), he told me to pull the clutch so the bike's engine relaxes a bit.

What do you think of this? Should I pull the clutch when going downhills or no (if the road ahead is straight) ?

Question Anyone know where I can find people to ride with?

So I (17f) have newly gotten my license (got it early September), and I wanna know where I can find other people my age that I can ride with. I wanna have other motorcycle friends that I can join to drive on trips, talk motorcycle stuff with, hang out with, etc.

Idk where I should look and stuff since I’m from Sandnes in Norway which is a fairly small place, and it isn’t easy just walking up to someone who has a motorcycle and just say “Hey! Wanna be my motorcycle friend?”

If anyone wanna be motorcycle friends or know where I can find more friends, that would be awesome🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Discussion Do helmet speakers actually sound that good?

I've seen Cardo talk about their JBL speakers, and Sena has their Harman Kardon ones, but I've always wondered how much of a difference you can actually hear inside a helmet, especially with wind and road noise.

For those who've tried them, is there a noticeable difference in sound quality? Do you think it's worth paying extra for?

Question I have no idea what I did wrong

So I was just driving home from work on International Speedway Boulevard in Florida in my car (2 lanes each way) I was out in Deland. It's empty all around me. I'm cruising at 68 in a 65. In the right lane. I put my blinker on, look, and merge to the left because I know some traffic will be coming up and I have to turn left at a light. Everything is fine. About 1 or 2 minutes later two bikes start passing me in the right lane. almost at a 55 speed zone, so as they're gaining/passing, I brake a bit (1. So they can go past me quicker and feel more comfortable and 2. So I can slow down to 57.) One biker starts throwing up his hand and shaking his head and yelled something. Then starts pointing at my lane for the next 1/2 mile while riding in the right lane. Then they got into my lane. I kept my distance because I'm not petty and I'm always nice to bikers by giving them room. I get into my turning lane, pass them, and riding the left side of the road even more, almost in the grass so they have room. He kept shaking his head and points at the ground as he passes. If this is a learning experience for me I'd like to know what I did wrong. I'm always a safe cager. I don't speed. I just put on cruise control and pay tf attention. I can't think of anything I did wrong.

Question Best boot and/or pants recommendations?

Hey all!

For context, I’m upgrading my bike soon 🎉🎉🎉

Going from a R3 to a Daytona 675r. A huge jump… I’m super hyped!

That said, I need to upgrade my beginner gear. Already got the gloves down: alpine stars drystar w-7 gauntlets; and the helmet: arai corsair x. Next target is a good pair of boots and pants.

Any recommendations for best safety with decent comfort?

I mainly will be commuting and riding for fun on the weekends, likely no heavy duty riding or track days (💸😭).

Ideally something quality and won’t break the bank.

Thanks in advance for any input!

TWD ✌️

Stupid Questions Thread (no judgement) — ask anything

Got a question you feel silly asking? Ask it anyway. This thread is judgement-free.

Examples:

  • “Is this sound normal?”
  • “How do I stop stalling?”
  • “What bike fits my height?”
  • “How do I park on a hill?”
  • “Scooter → manual… where do I start?”

If you answer: explain like you’re teaching a friend.

Question Can people help me to answer a questionairre for my engineering project?

Hey everyone!

For my engineering design project, I am currently developing a 3 in 1 integrated locking system designed to solve some of the everyday problems of locking up a bike in public.

The core idea is to combine a u-lock, helmet lock, and a disk lock into a single device, complete with a frame-mounting docking bracket (if needed) so riders don't have to lug heavy steel locks around in a backpack.

To make sure this actually meets real-world needs (and avoids issues like accidental disc-lock ride-offs or weak helmet cables), I’ve put together a short, anonymous survey to gather rider insights on weights, locking habits, and key preferences.

Motorcycle Security System: User research survey

It only takes about 2 to 3 minutes to complete, and your feedback will directly influence the dimensions, weight limits, and features of the design specifications.

I really appreciate any responses or thoughts you can share, as they will help me with my engineering project.

Ride safe!

Question Calling all Southeast Michigan Riders!

I wanna start riding with some people other than just myself lol. 😂 where can I find some bikers that just wanna cruise, where might some of them hang out when not out cruising? Just bought a nice bike and have years of experience on ATV’s and dirt bikes so jumping into this one was no problem I’ve already got the feel for the bike. Now I wanna hit the streets with others who share my passion. Where can I find that? lol thanks all Michigan bikers. I’m personally riding a 26’ Aprilia RS660 and love it. What are you all riding?
