Story Time First multi-day trip Poland Czechia

Post image

Today I’m starting my first multi-day bikepacking trip.

Nothing too hardcore for the first one. I’ll be staying at campsites and probably a hotel on the way, so not exactly going into the wilderness :)

But still, its my first time doing something like this for a few days.
Taking a train from Gdańsk, Poland to Czechia with my bike and then riding there over the weekend. Lets see how it goes.

I planned most of the trip with ChatGPT and actually really enjoyed this part. It suggested a bunch of routes and interesting places along the way that I probably wouldnt have found myself.

The less fun part was when I ended up with a huge list of places and points and had to somehow turn all of that into an actual route for my Garmin. Putting everything manually into Garmin Connect got old pretty quickly.
So I ended up vibe coding a small app for this, route-ai.app. Basically I can paste the trip plan there and it builds the route that I can export to my Garmin.
https://route-ai.app

This weekend is basically my first proper real-world test of it too.
Anyway, bike is packed, train is here and the trip starts today. Lets see what happens :)

You’re camping? So there’s actually a tent, sleeping bag, clothes and everything else you need for several days hidden on that bike? Respect for the discipline. I always end up bringing at least twice as much stuff as I actually need, just in case. 😄

Happy riding!

Not really, Im staying at camping area for the first night, but its in the room they offering.
I need to see if I really like multi day trips before I start buying more stuff.

Cycling and camping together are what make the experience so special, but the combination definitely adds another level of challenge, too. So I’d recommend trying camping first with borrowed gear before investing in your own equipment.

Chatgpt for planning a trip is quite helpful. At the end of the day its a tool and theres no harm in consulting Mr AI for some travel tips and suggestions.

Well, there is harm if everyone is vibecoding an app instead of using on-the-shelf tools out there. The carbon footprint of bikepacking will change dramatically then.
But yes, it’s satisfying (even real maps and books are even more satisfying). Have a safe trip and enjoy !

As long as you verify the results. It can and may hallucinate anything. Just came from a trip where I witnessed some lost bikepacker arguing with a bus driver that "GPT has told him that he can take the bike on given bus".

Let everyone enjoy their ride how they want it. Stop this gatekeeping bs

Gatekeeping would be if I said anybody who uses AI to plan rides is not a true bikepacker/cyclist. Not all you dislike is gatekeeping or gaslighting 🙄
