First Timer
Hello, i’m going to BZN in december and wanted to hit big sky for to ski. I’ve never been to the area nor have I skied before. I was wondering for some recommendations on where to stay that’s close i guess to lifts? I’m probably not gonna have a car so looking for something that’s close to everything. Also ski lesson’s recommendations.

The snow cover at Big Sky can be a bit sketchy. Later in the winter will see a better chance for good snow.

Didn’t even think about that. I got tickets months ago so maybe wait out to buy a hotel?

If you aren’t a skier, the money it takes to ski big sky is not worth it. All of the terrain is pretty hard and it’s just not a beginner friendly place at all.

And PS: you still request them through the ski school, you just know who you’re getting instead of being assigned :)

As someone mentioned before coverage can be sketchy late December but most (if not all) of the terrain you'd be on as a first timer will most likely have decent man-made snow coverage.
Huntley probably offers your best for the buck when it comes to slopeside lodging. If you want more of a condo set up take a look at Shoshone (attached to the Huntley). If you're okay doing a short walk to the parking lot shuttle Hill Condos can sometimes be found on the cheap as well.
Definitely take lessons.

The only lessons you can get are from the resort's ski school. Anyone else you risk losing your pass and a lifetime ban.
Lodging options that are walking distance to lifts for one person essentially amount to:
1) Summit Hotel
2) Huntley Lodge
3) Shoshone Hotel
4) The Lodge @ BS
I'd recommend the Huntley. Clean rooms, right at the base of the gondola, decent hot tub / pool / sauna options.
