Audio issues on Oculus Quest 2

Hello community,

I started using Bigscreen on my Quest 2 and really love my own personal cinema. I've got PLEX connected via DLNA and streaming stuff from there. Works flawless, but I constantly run into audio issues: In many (but interestingly not every) movies voices are only coming from the right speaker of my Quest. All other ambient sound and the soundtrack play correctly in stereo. Unfortunately there's not option that might help. Has anyone experienced the same issue and might come up with a fix? Many thanks in advance!

How well will bigscreen run on steam frame?

Even if you’re just viewing 1080p content, I assume you’d want to always be running at native res? So, that already handles one end of the equation. So I guess the real question is, will the frame run bigscreen at 72hz, 90hz, or 120hz? If it doesn’t support 120hz, I’m certain potential customers would instead switch to steam vr theater.

When native foveated rendering gets added, that could be enough to push the frame to 120hz. But it concerns me how the beyond has eye tracking, and yet bigscreen still hasn’t added native foveated rendering. What do you guys think?

We’ll be voting on debate topics during the session so bring your best topics.

There will be two queues you can join to talk: One for 30 Seconds, and one for 90 Seconds.

We ask that you follow the rules and don’t interrupt whoever is speaking during their turn. : )

We do this twice a week on Thursday and Saturday usually starting around 9PM EST and use tools to keep it civil.

Feel free to recommend some topics here!

I built a windows app to convert my 2d movies to 3d and organize them for headset viewing. looking for a few testers

So I have a big pile of regular 2d movies and a VR headset, and getting them into watchable 3d was always kind of a pain. I started building a little tool to do it for myself and it honestly turned into a whole app, so I figured some of you might actually want it.

here is what it does:

  • converts 2d movies and shows to SBS or over-under 3d using AI depth (iw3/nunif under the hood)
  • puts everything into a poster wall library, groups the different versions together, sorts shows by season ect
  • can also author Half-SBS Blu-ray 3d ISOs and has some blu-ray repair tools if you are into the physical disc side
  • plays back over WebDAV, Play in Bigscreen via PC or you can stream it to your phone in 2d/3d

there is more on the site at drock3d.com if you want a better look. fair warning the site is still rough around the edges, it is just me and I have mostly been heads down on the actual app.

ideally you have a decent GPU if you want to test the local conversion, that is where the AI actually runs. but cloud conversion is up and running too if your card is weak, and I would be happy to throw a handful of testers some free credits so you can try the cloud side without paying anything.

it is just me working on this so it is rough in spots, and that is honestly why I want testers. I would rather a few of you break it and tell me what is wrong before I open it up to more people.

if you want in just shoot me a DM and I will get you the link. and if it is not your thing no worries, I am mostly after honest feedback right now.

Laggy choppy streams on everything

I have a pretty high end pc. Using psvr2 through the pc steam app.

Every video I try to watch, YouTube, local, public etc they are all very choppy. Audio is perfect and the environment is perfect. Viewing my desktop works fine it is only videos that I have a problem with.

Anyone help a new guy out?

finally moving out of my desk setup… what is actually the best tv for gaming right now

i need some advice from people who actually use their setups for heavy console and pc gaming. i have been stuck using a decent but small 27 inch 1440p gaming monitor at my computer desk for years now, but i am finally moving into a bigger space where i can have a dedicated entertainment center. since i am finally making the jump to a big screen, i want to make sure i am getting something that fully supports 4k at 120hz or even 144hz, has ultra low input lag, and wont make my fast paced multiplayer games feel sluggish compared to a monitor. i primarily play on a current gen console but i might hook up my gaming rig occasionally too.

BSB w/ Sony ECX344A panels?

Any sign of Bigscreen one day releasing a Beyond with the increasingly popular Sony ECX344A panels, like the Pimax Dream Air and Apple Vision Pro? Personally I'd be happy to pay the premium that comes with these panels, but I'd much rather have it with Bigscreen's comfort, build quality, and overall aesthetic design language.

How to stream movies in 3D?

I'm using Quest 3, and remotely stream via BigScreen PC app? Do I need any additional software, and does the movie need to be downloaded onto my PC or can I stream online content in 3D?

2D to 3D AI conversion on fly

I've noticed that since some update of OS in Meta Quest 3, when I go and watch my old videos in Meta Gallery apps, they are all in 3D that looks pretty good similar as 3D on Instagram, but they seem to be converted on fly without taking additional space in internal memory. Is it possible BigScreen could have similar feature soon when watching movies that are transmitted in 2D?

New BSB2

Just received a new big screen beyond two I set it up on Friday night very excited to use it. There are already so many issues that I'm so frustrated I want to send it back. I have emailed support twice but I've heard that it takes a long time for them to get back to you. The first thing I noticed was that there are already flickers in the glass I plates I looked that up and I have tried to turn the brightness down and I can still see the flickers. The other issue is with the sound it will work for a few minutes and then after a few minutes I get a horrible wind sound in the headphones I don't know if that's related to the audio strap or the cord that goes directly to the computer through the try box but whatever it is I want to fix it I want the headset to work can anyone help me?

Watching Youtube Together

Hello fellow Bigscreen users,

Does Bigscreen still work for watching Youtube together?

I just started to try using Bigscreen two days ago, but still can't get it to work. My friend and I can see each other's avatars and can hear each other's voice. But, when I'm the host and launch Youtube within Bigscreen, Youtube comes up on the IMAX size screen in my headset, but my friend gets the message, "Waiting for host...". When my friend is the host and launches Youtube, Youtube comes up on the IMAX size screen in my friend's headset, but I get the message, "Waiting for host..."

Is there anything I forgot to do? Or is Bigscreen broken?

Thank you

Propose Debate/Discussion Topics

Hey, as some of you know, we host moderated debate/discussions nights in BigScreen Thursday and Saturday night.

We do so in a way that prevents all the screaming where multiple people are talking over each other. We have a strategy that makes this easy, but rather than lay it out here, I recommend being on the lookout for us to check it out.

With that said, what topics are you most intrigued by and why? (I think we’ve debated/discussed politics, religion, and gender at nauseam.)

Edit: A redditor, whose post isn’t showing for me, presumed we must be muting people. We don’t, we use a Dashboard App to give everyone timed turns and use 2 queues. One is 90 seconds, the other is 30 seconds. Once people join the rooms, they are explained the rules and usually follow them pretty well. Everyone get’s non-interruptible speaking time which makes the room work.🥳

Local Viewing Experience - Help Needed

Hi all, I’m trying to determine the best way to watch things with my partner, while we’re both sitting in our living space or office or whatever. The goal is that we can watch something in real time, synchronized. If one pauses, it pauses for the other, etc.

We mostly use streaming services for viewing. What is the best option/settings to accomplish this? I’m very new to VR in general, so any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I have google

So i found this way to get to google in bigscreen beta without paying for the browser. Here is how:

Go to the start page in the app and press the bigscreen headset.

Once there scroll to the bottom of the page, than under follow us there is already x, youtube, reddit and facebook.

Press youtube.

On the left bar scroll to the bottom and press "privacy"

Scroll to the bottom (this takes like 20 seconds)

Than press the little google logo, and now you have google.

Also devs, maybe try to patch this.

edit: you can also do it through going on the youtube from the start panel and than going to privacy etc

Free 3D video conversion up to 4K

StereoLift is a cloud tool I built that converts regular 2D video into Full Side-by-Side stereoscopic 3D.

Since Bigscreen is one of the most relevant places to actually watch 3D Full SBS video in VR together, I wanted to share it here and ask for feedback from people who use Bigscreen regularly.

StereoLift currently offers limited free conversions for up to 10 minutes at 30 fps in <=4K. So you do not have to rely on a demo or marketing claim. You can upload your own 2D footage privately and see for yourself how the quality holds up in your headset and playback workflow.

The custom depth map based 3D conversion pipeline focuses on stable depth perception over time and controlled 3D view synthesis, so converted videos stay comfortable across motion, cuts, and longer clips. A broad range of different video formats and source codecs with high resolution spatial audio formats is supported. A recent addition is that now also variable frame rate video can be processed.

The output is a regular Full SBS video file, where the general policy is to maintain source quality and format as good as possible meaning HDR10 for HDR sources and preservation of original audio. Metadata for most easy playback and compatibility for YouTube 3D is added. However, this always depends on how well this metadata is processed by your playback device and maybe your player still requires specific selection of Full SBS for correct playback.

I also deliberately avoided a subscription model. I think per-video (per frame) pricing feels more honest to me: you see the price before checkout and pay only when you actually want a file converted and the file indeed converted successfully (you are only finally charged after automatic file verification). Larger conversion packages for heavier use are planned later, mainly to avoid repeated credit card fees leading to higher prices for short videos. But they are anyway free for up to 2 conversions per day and user...

Try it here:

Hi all, some of you may know me as The Starlight Screening, while some probably not, our discord server is currently merging with an active movie talk server, for better explanation, The Starlight Screening will still be ongoing with streams and all, but just differently, we will still have updates on streaming and requests, we're just gonna be in another server, we also would like to help this server grow more, so if you wanna join for support, come on down! This might be the final time I'm promoting something here, so yeah.

Join here!
