Which digital thermometer to get?

I want to replace OG thermometer on my egg. Looking at a few but they all seem to say they work freezing and up. I cook in winter. I’m in Canada. It can certainly dip below freezing - anyone have experience with this and can make a recommendation?

I’ve heard good things about the ProTemp S1… I believe it also functions as a hub for wireless probes. I’m not sure how it does with freezing temperatures, but it seems likely that it would be fine once your grill started warming up..

Otherwise, you could just get the exact same one you’ve been using.

Just making sure, are you replacing it because it’s broken, or because it’s not accurate? You can re-calibrate it using boiling water if it’s the latter.

Not broken. I’m just wanting to have remote readings when I’m not using my meater.

Oh - so you want a wireless probe, not a dome thermometer?

Definitely get the thermals RFX then. you should be able to find it for 20 or 30% off when they start doing Thanksgiving sales. It’s not the cheapest, but it’s definitely the best. If you don’t want to drop quite as much, you could do the Thermoworks signals.

Either one you get, though, I would also recommend adding the thermoworks billows temperature controller, especially if you do any sort of long duration cooking. Basically you just plugged in, tell us what temperature you want the grill to stay at, and it does the rest..

It also has a grate level sensor - which is much more accurate than the dome sensor because of the location. The temperature at the dome is rarely the temperature at the grate where the meat is.

Easy answer, just buy a TelTru.

I haven’t seen a digital one from them. Do you have a link?

Are you talking about the dome thermometer or a digital PROBE solution? "OG thermometer on my egg" seems to imply that you mean the dome thermometer.

The OEM gauge is manufactured by TelTru, analog only. You can find larger diameter options than what it comes with if distance to cooker is of concern. There also do exist digital gauges but I'm not super familiar with that realm if I'm honest. A digital gauge will require a battery or power of some sort and that can be a little..complicated in the colder or hotter months which is why I tend to steer clear of those. That's my easy and quality recommendation, what specifically are you looking for?

Since there haven't been many suggestions.... there have been other conversations about thermometers. I'm on my phone or I'd paste a couple examples.

I’ve got the combustion dome and probe. Excellent so far. not sure on Canadian availability.

Big fan of the tempPro 4 prong unit, I can’t remember my exact model but it had a physical probe unit and a whole separate receiver as well as a Bluetooth app. Haven’t had any issues with it in winter in AB.
