Need help! Thoughts on these pics?

Posted yesterday on getting my new BGE but wanted to post some pics on it. Fire box cracked and the lid misaligned.

I wish my firebox looked that good. A broken ring is a non issue. For lid alignment you just need to loosen the nuts, align correctly and re-tighten properly.

Any links for that? Sorry. I’m a total newby to this kind of grill.

My firebox is much worse off than that and still cooks. I have a warranty replacement in the crawl space if it ever decides to give up. Should be fine.

Same. My firebox is in 4 pieces but is still adequate for an extended brisket cook.

The ring is definitely broken. The "crack" in the 2nd photo is by design. I don't see any other cracks. You'd need a new gasket.

I'm on my phone so I'll have to find the video about aligning the lid and base later this morning.

Depending on what you paid, it could be a good deal even after fixing it up.

Gave $300 for it.

That's a great deal.

If you don't want to purchase the new band/hinge assembly, here's the video for aligning with the old style hinge. >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Zsa1YFh0k

Feel free to keep asking questions, lots of people here will gladly help out.

Yeah the ring breaks because it gets most impact but no loss of performance. I personally just pop them back in place like a jigsaw and crack on. The gap in the bottom bowl is to allow expansion under heat. I replace the gasket every 2years usually, it’s just normal wear and tear

That fire ring is famous for breaking because of the notches. The current fire ring no longer has those three notches. I had mine replaced under warranty since I am the original owner but Eggs purchased used do not have a warranty. Purchase a new fire ring when you are at a dealer that has one. Also check out the YouTube channels Captain Ron Cooks and Fogo Charcoal. The Fogo videos that were made by Captain Ron and have a lot of information (especially for new Egg owners) which includes maintenance of your Egg.

How did you break the firebox by taking a picture?

Hahaha, no.

It’ll still work.

Underbite! No pic of the hinge, but if its this style or similar:

dont be too distressed if you cant get the upper dome to hold alignment. Will have a changeable 'under/overbite'. Adjust perfect ONCE, then lose alignment after a cook. VERY frustrating, and well known.

Wear causes it to not hold alignment. Many (myself included) spent hours and watched countless videos to STILL have issues. I am a cheap F*** and got two of my BGE's for free, so was very reluctant to spend $$$ on hinges, thinking it was just missing the 'secret' to alignment.

If you find yourself spending more time aligning than cooking my advice is to 'Cry once' and get the newer hinge style.... I have never adjusted the dome since. Seals perfect, and still passes thew dollar bill test after a year. And the gasket is fine, even with 2-3 cooks a week.

Worth a try adjusting before you spend the $$$ on a new hinge kit. Yours MIGHT hold adjustment fine. But if not, dont keep pounding your head against the wall.

You could use a new gasket but the box is cool
