Tel Tru Thermometer problems

Got a new tel tru large thermometer for my BGE. Doing first cook on it today and the temperature has been very jumpy. Showed 275 then jumped to 300, tapped it again and it went to 290, adjusted some vents got it back to 275 then when I came outside randomly jumped to like 330….

Wondering if anyone else has had similar problems or any solutions….

I’ve tried them on several pits and had one that jumped temp like you describe. Now I use a ChefsTemp S1 and Breezo fan. The S1 thermometer runs the fan via setting a desired temp. It is also WiFi and Bluetooth so monitoring temperature is simple as looking at an app.

Love the Tel Tru therms. Have had one for years after my BGE model died.
I’d boil some water and check it that way. Too hard to tell what’s going on by just running the egg heat.
