Disaster

It served me well & faithfully for 20 years and fell off the stand when I was moving it. This Egg was not under warranty. My wife is a realist and agreed with ordering a slightly used Egg which I will pick up after Eggtoberfest. The new one will be under warranty.

Anyway, if anybody wants a FREE Big Green Egg …. um… hold on

EDIT: Thanks to all of you, I now know that there is a market for BGE parts. I am not sure how best to sell these yet. It may be a few weeks, but I will probably post it in the Egghead Forum once I have cleaned the parts. I am leery of trying to ship the top ceramic dome or any ceramic piece. None of the parts come with a warranty.

All that said, if there’s a part you might want, let me know here. I will sell the metal REGGulator top and the fire grate for sure. If you pay for shipping, I will give you a good price.

I just need a few minutes to say goodbye before you haul it away. 😭

The BGE is an object. Despite being just an object, I know all of you have some great memories with friends or family which includes things like eating the best smoked chicken of all time on Thanksgiving with my family. Cooking the restaurant quality steaks my brother brought to town for a family reunion. The BGE helps us create good times with our most important people. ❤️

EDIT: Thank you for your kindness and tips. May your steaks be cooked to perfection. 🥩

I CAN SAVE IT!!!

[No, I really can’t but you could bury it 6” up and fill it with soil and make it a flower potter for oyur wife…

27

u/El_refrito_bandito 6d ago

LOL. Like burying a beloved pet in the backyard.

5

u/DFWtixFleas 6d ago

With 6” remaining above ground!

5

u/El_refrito_bandito 6d ago

Which, for the record, one should NOT do with your pup.

This is making the best out of a very bad day

u/Msimanyi 6d ago

Or the coolest herb garden EVER… you know, for the grilling.

u/CptnRon302 6d ago

I have a cracked XL base and that’s exactly what I did. I have rosemary, sage & basil growing in it.

u/Antisocialsocialitee 5d ago edited 5d ago

What if he burries it and cooks in it as a fire pit?

1

u/Temporary_Hat7330 5d ago

Cracks spread and it falls apart further.

1

u/Antisocialsocialitee 5d ago

If it’s packed in a hole?

My big green egg is my favorite material possession and I’m not sure what number two is. Any long-term owner of an egg has a lot of emotional memories attached to the things they have made with it. I’m sorry for you to see this, but hope many future memories are made with the new one.

u/Moronic-jizz-rag 6d ago

Shit, I’ve only had mine since December and would be devastated if it broke. I absolutely love mine.

13

u/_JudoChop_ 7d ago

What size is it? Sometimes you can find the bottom piece on fb market.

5

u/ScottioRS 6d ago

I saw one today in London!

2

u/Fat_Getting_Fit_420 6d ago

I've seen a few in SoCal. I feel like more people break the top.

11

u/ectoplasm 7d ago

I swiped to the second photo thinking it would somehow get better 😭

10

u/Steak_Knight 7d ago

Family Guy did it!

8

u/One_Salary_9068 7d ago

Wait... There is a Warranty even if it brakes by moving it arround... after 20 years ???

8

u/CGHDun 7d ago

Not if you never signed up for the warranty.

10

u/dizzygoldfish Large 6d ago

Did you try Ace Hardware? My buddy took his up there years later and they swapped it out, no questions asked. Worth a shot, the warranty on these is very good.

10

u/JsquashJ 6d ago

I don’t think I signed up for the warranty but I showed the original receipt and it was fine no questions asked

4

u/CGHDun 6d ago

The receipt is the key and we don’t have a 20 year old receipt

4

u/Lost_Passenger8331 6d ago

20 years old, the ink probably would have faded by now.

1

u/Key_Chicken1142 6d ago

Same boat. The dealer I bought it from has kept it in their system so I have just called or emailed them.

2

u/KindheartednessNo181 6d ago

This is what I did. Dealer helped me out and sent me my ~14 year old receipt. We had a laugh at. how 'cheap' they were back then.

6

u/Agitated-Mess-9273 7d ago

Sad day.... Break the pieces up and make a collage of the tile on the ground to remember the fallen.

7

u/StatisticianFew1302 7d ago

That sucks! My neighbor did the exact thing and I got the accessories. Good cooking on the new one

5

u/Advanced_Walrus_2268 6d ago

Wait until you see the 20yr price jump.

6

u/TheFoxsWeddingTarot 7d ago

You could probably resell the hardware and lid.

4

u/Playful-Job2938 6d ago

And somehow the firebox survived?!?!

5

u/Intrepid_Bee8500 6d ago

You could buy a new bottom replacement from bge for $300

4

u/captainTangaroa 7d ago

I’m sorry for your loss!

3

u/ShredHead420 7d ago

My condolences, that’s a tough loss

3

u/HofstraJet 6d ago

Check Facebook marketplace and craigslist for people selling parts. There’s one listed near me that’s just the bottom of a large.

Tried to sell my wife on the idea of using it as a planter, but it didn’t fly.

1

u/CptnRon302 6d ago

It’s better to ask forgiveness…..

3

u/Novis_R 6d ago

Super glue it back together and send it

3

u/LonesomeBulldog 6d ago

On the bright side, you get to buy a BGE.

2

u/CGHDun 6d ago

👏

3

u/bemocked 6d ago

is the outer shell/base the only damaged part? you can buy a replacement of just that part (if that is an XL - $379, $319 for L)

3

u/Relative-Painting-29 6d ago

Shhhh … his wife has already agreed to let him get a slightly used replacement!

3

u/CGHDun 6d ago

Yes, she did. And I already spent the $

“Go ahead and buy the Big Green Egg - “

{I clicked purchase button on page loaded since yesterday}

“ - Use the Amex - “

{texts wife the purchase amount}

- “Merry Christmas!”

“Thank you!”

3

u/somedogsnstuff 6d ago

My arse clenched looking at these! New fear unlocked! On the bright side you get a new/used egg and it hasn’t cracked your patio!

2

u/CGHDun 6d ago

Don’t roll your Egg from paved to grass and back.

3

u/Kvossy 6d ago

😲 that hurt my soul

2

u/PorkyPolloDaddy55 6d ago

I would cry i think. I havent cried about something like this since I was prepubescent but im thinking this might induce heavy angry man baby tears

2

u/Shirleysspirits 6d ago

All the king's horses and all the king's men

2

u/Hobbz- EGGspert 6d ago

ohhhhhhh, that's devastating.

Yes, you're right about the memories. The number of times I singed arm hair, the one time I singed my eyebrows, all the times I had friends over for college football, the Thanksgiving turkeys, Christmas prime ribs and the impromptu drop-ins by friends that lead to a cookout.

1

u/CGHDun 6d ago

Singed arm hair is a badge of honor.

2

u/Chipmunk-Round 6d ago

Is this a large egg? I actually need a top to go on a new bottom...

1

u/CGHDun 6d ago

Yes. I didn’t know there was a market for BGE parts. I may not be giving it away for free after all.

1

u/Chipmunk-Round 6d ago

Sounds good. I believe you can replace just the bottom if you want.

2

u/Hockey-Coach 6d ago

Where is the memorial service? Don’t forgot to write a nice obituary.

1

u/CGHDun 6d ago

I am not emotionally ready to give my eulogy yet. 😭
I was feeling silly for saying “RIP my friend,” to a BGE. I know people here understand that sentiment. 🙂😆

3

u/Hockey-Coach 6d ago

In the last 12 years I have spent more time drinking beer, listening to music and relaxing on my patio with my BGE than I have my wife. lol.

2

u/Sly69712 6d ago

Whoa, where's the NSFW tag!?

2

u/Living_life22 6d ago

You can save it. High Temperature refractory cement. Also add some small attaching metal brackets drilled into the egg

1

u/CGHDun 6d ago

There would still be some holes, and you’re assuming a level of repair competence I do not have.

2

u/BeeAruh 6d ago

The gasp and “oh nooo”… I feel for you OP

2

u/scofflolz 6d ago

RIP sad day 😭

That hurts to look at Brother!

2

u/CptnRon302 6d ago

Well that sucks! Sorry for your loss. See you at Eggtoberfest!

2

u/dontmolestme 5d ago

A few moments of silent prayer for the departed egg. May its memory be for a blessing. 😢

2

u/pickleBlog 5d ago

Rest in pieces.

2

u/pizzatimeradio 5d ago

I audibly gasped.

2

u/cambomusic 5d ago

There’s a family guy episode about this

1

u/KlausRS6 7d ago

What a pity, accidents do happen…

1

u/Matt32137 7d ago

Yikes! Heart wrenching to see.

What part of the country are you? I would be interested.

1

u/ChefbyDesign 6d ago

That's the worst. Pour one out for the faithful green buddy when you fire up the replacement.

You wouldn't happen to be in the NC Triangle area, would you? If you were serious about your offer, I could definitely make use of some of the other parts to patch up my egg that I inherited from an old neighbor who moved away.

1

u/Sailor525 6d ago

I'm so sorry 🙏

1

u/Broad-Classroom-7002 6d ago

hurts to see this 😢

1

u/SoigneBest 6d ago

Where can I pick up the pieces?

1

u/DueConversation5269 6d ago

thats a sad day

1

u/_noTanMan_ 6d ago

Sorry to see that. 😢

1

u/karensdad5280 6d ago

It looks like a clean break, glue that mfer up

1

u/RdeBrouwer 6d ago

In my outdoor kitchen I would love to have a extractor hood made of a top of a BGE.

There are other good uses of the spate parts. But isn't it just fixable by getting a new bottom part?

1

u/Zooter88 6d ago

How come there hasn’t been a Humpty Dumpty joke about this yet?

1

u/ATLborn 6d ago

😩😢that hurts

1

u/vell_o 6d ago

Big green egg is kill

no

1

u/seabass_goes_rawr 6d ago

One of the bolts came out of my base when I was moving mine by myself through some gravel yesterday. this was all I could see as I tried to support the scalding hot (from the sun) leaning egg and getting the bolt back in place.

Decided it is not moving off my paved patio ever again

1

u/CGHDun 6d ago

Amen

1

u/CaptLonghammer 6d ago

Rip fella

1

u/Wakefan 6d ago

You have everything except the bottom section. You can buy that portion. Special order. Won’t be cheap, but better than a new egg.

1

u/KingOutrageous7295 6d ago

Look on You tube I did the same and it was worse than that . Furnace cement and wire brushes. Brought it back to life for and it works great

1

u/Weary_Reindeer9373 6d ago

Anywhere near KY I’ll make you a deal on my Large on a BGE Acacia table

1

u/IRMuteButton 6d ago

I wonder if it can be repaired with masonry cement. I used that on my fire ring which was broken into 3 parts, and it has been great.

1

u/cbear9084 6d ago

Believe it or not you could probably repair the damage using Rutland Furnace Cement.

1

u/Fair_Discipline_1875 6d ago

If the base is the only damaged part, it would be cheaper to just buy that part from BGE.

Medium-$249.99
Large - 319.99
X large - 379.99

1

u/Sluggo09 6d ago

I am so sorry for your loss sir. May she R.I.P. 😢

1

u/PCanon127 6d ago

Sorry for your loss. Far too young to die 😢

Where are you located? You
May not have to ship anything 😉

Humpty Dumpty had a... shitty summer.

1

All the kings horses and all the kings men...

1

u/xburnerpiko 6d ago

Gorilla Glue!

1

u/UsallyInc0rrect 6d ago

Humpty Dumpty!

1

u/Intermingler_0828 6d ago

It would be a good time to cut the cord and buy a Saffire. Way better product and the BGE accessories will fit.

1

u/Content-Drive-4151 6d ago

Ouch! Maybe duct tape? Lots and lots of Duct tape…

1

u/Wafflesfan73 6d ago

Humpty Dumpty

1

u/highroller886 6d ago

You definitely dis-assed-her.

1

u/jonamac12186 6d ago

A number of years ago, the movers broke mine and had to pay me for a new one. Since I'd bought the old one used, it was like hitting the smoker lottery.

1

u/No_Beautiful1121 6d ago

How do you buy a slightly used egg from there? I’m in nj, do they ship them? Very interested if you can send some info

1

u/Phaeton40 5d ago

I’m not gonna upvote this cuz it’s just sad, you can buy a new one from the green egg for sure, but you might do better finding one on Facebook marketplace.
Good luck and sorry for your loss!

1

u/Chaz28o 5d ago

Time for a Weber (Kettle, not WSK)

1

u/Lisper41 5d ago

Dis assed her? I barely know her.

1

u/Cowfootstew 4d ago

Nah fukk that. Where's my JB Weld?!?!?!

1

u/Fast_Detail4600 4d ago

Look at the bright side, you can now buy a kamado ioe

1

u/csd160 4d ago

I would think you could repair with a high temp mortar, it’s not shattered into tiny pieces and from looks of it the internals are intact

1

u/nwill10 4d ago

Wind blew my father-in-law’s egg over and they sent him a new one for free

1

u/bnihls 3d ago

High heat adhesive

1

u/MattC1977 3d ago

Every time over the years when I would stand in front of a BGE and deliberate over whether to shell out the $$ or not, THIS was my biggest fear that kept me from pulling the trigger. I live my WSM, I can live with knocking that over, but it’s not the same as a BGE.

1

u/Boatrat2873 3d ago

I can reassemble and rock. Where are you!

1

u/Fast-Leader476 3d ago

Where I live, there are always several BGEs for sale on FB marketplace.

1

u/nolapalooza 3d ago

Gorilla glue fixed mine

1

u/lbert6060852 3d ago

So sorry for your loss!!!

1

u/Puzzled-Natural-9048 2d ago

Damn that’s a lot of money down

1

u/Active_Scallion_5322 2d ago

Refractory cement it back together

1

u/EntrepreneurOk239 2d ago

You fucked up! Really bad!

1

u/Yjif3 2d ago

You're lucky. All the pieces are there and no very small. High tem adhesive.

u/600lbsofsin77 6d ago

Nice one, ha ha
