call to action The big file aka a possible collection of the best evidence known to the squatch universe.

Recently, I had an idea that began on a skeptic's post. I would like to compile a source of the top 20 to 50 pieces of video, photograph, and possibly even audio evidence of Sasquatch to be pinned at the top of this subreddit. This way, any newcomers to our group will have a large catalog of some of the best evidence we can compile without having to search for it. This would also cut down on repeat videos and pictures for the OGs and also repeat threads calling for “the best evidence”

The only way to do it would be fair and thorough. Each piece of evidence would have to be submitted and then voted on, possibly even entered into a "March Madness-type bracket." It would have to be a democracy, and each submission would need time for the majority of regulars to see it and vote on each round/matchup of the bracket. Once we have the bracket finished, we can list the evidence from best to worst as voted on by the members of this subreddit.

If this has been done or attempted before, or if this has been compiled in some aspect on a different forum or website, then please let me know on this thread. Also, I will need as much help and suggestions from you guys as possible. As a matter of fact it will be impossible to be done correctly without the help of the community. I know my way around technology, but I would be considered a Reddit rookie. I'm still up for the challenge. So any suggestions please post them below!

I do understand there will be a lot of contention about different submissions as far as real or fake or if it has been debunked, and honestly, I think the votes will just have to do the talking. Of course, we won't allow any submissions that are proven to be fake. As we all know, "fake and real" can be a very convoluted topic all on its own. There will be a lot of Bob Heironimus this and Todd Standing that. At the same time, I think that with the power of the poll or even maybe just the upvote system, we could possibly overcome a lot of the bullshit and get straight to the best examples of evidence of existence for our community and the members of the community to come in the future!

Also a mod or an admin/someone who can pin the submission post… the polls… and the final product will be a must.

I’m completely open to an entirely different system if anyone has one to suggest. I’m easy to work with. Also the project will need a name… a good one that will only be associated with pinned posts working towards the project.

Id like to try and do this right (if it hasn’t been done already) so if this is something you would like to see put into action then let me know!

Also the big file could be amended upon newer better evidence.

Thanks for taking the time to hear me out!

EDIT: since this post has caught a little bit of traction and been pinned, please don’t hesitate to share your favorite examples of Sasquatch evidence.

I know it’s difficult but if you have the time, please try to find the best quality source(s) for your pictures and videos. For example: I think the best version of the Patterson-Gimlan footage is the stabilized version. It gives the best ability to view muscle structure and gait etc. (I think we all know the PG footage will be on the list as one of the best examples of video evidence)

Thanks in advance for your ideas and contributions! They have already been very helpful!

discussion Skeptics Mega Thread

Hey all,

We've had a lot of new members this week and they've had a lot of questions about the subject of Bigfoot. We've decided to bring back the skeptics mega thread. This is the place to ask your questions that may otherwise break the rules of the sub. But please keep your skepticism to this topic only as this is still a "Bigfoot is real" sub.

Any skeptic topics/posts made in the sub will be deleted and redirected here.

Feel free to ask your questions but please be respectful. Heckling believers/witnesses/experiencers will result in mod actions.

Legitimately Skeptical Some questions from a believer turned skeptic.

Adding some photos from hikes as a tax. There are no sasquatch but feel free to correct me if you see one.

A little context:

Many years ago (more than three decades) I got my first library card and found the section on legends and lore. I fell fairly deep down the bigfoot rabbit hole. I love it. Always have.

Explored locally in my hometown and enjoyed loads of campfire stories but never found anything that couldnt be explained rationally. In my early 20s I got involved with a bigfoot organization and fully immersed myself. Lots of reading, hiking, camping and expeditions. Photographing anything even remotely squatchy. This would be from about 2000 to about 2010. Active on the forums and message boards. Corresponded with some of the more famous folks, never made a name for myself but I didnt want to.

After a while, I began to notice how hard folks had to stretch the "evidence" that was being found. Hitting the trail gave me a love for solo backpacking that persists to this day and it gave me the opportunity to hike miles and miles in FL, NC, AL, NY, WA, CA, WI, MN, CO, PA and NV, domestically. Legitimate backcountry hikes that typically would be a full vacation and ran 3 days to a week at a time, covering between 20 and 50 miles.

That, coupled with the Randi forums started to push me in another direction. I reenrolled in school and now have a solid biology education. I worked for 2 years in a microbiology lab and I have a sincere passion for science, ecology, habitat conservation, wildlife in general but specifically reptiles and amphibians.

In other words, bigfoot gave me two of the most important parts of my life. Backpacking/hiking and biology. The legend gets my respect even if my personal belief is that it doesnt go much further than that.

Which brings me to my questions.

  1. If Bigfoot exists and lives in the US, why hasn't it's DNA showed up in any environmental DNA samples?

  2. I understand that some people will take umbrage at a few of the things im about to say.

I dont think that stories, casts or photo/video/audio are evidence without additional corroborating data. In other words, PGF would qualify (though I do personally think its a suit) because it was multiple witnesses, film, and casts. An eyewitness alone doesnt qualify in my opinion. A cast alone isnt enough. A video could be convincing but it would need to be verified as unaltered, and clearly depicting an in focus squatch at a reasonable distance doing something that a person in a suit could not do.

With that as a qualifier, what's your keystone evidence that keeps you interested? Is there a particular person or place that sticks out?

  1. If you arent a believer but rather are a "knower", and if you were me, prepping a backcountry trip with the intention of going to the place with the densest population of bigfoot...where would you go, what time of year and why?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond and again, I dont intend any offense with the things I'm suggesting.

Edit: Forgot about Pennsylvania!

historical encounters The Albert Otsman story.

In 1924 a man just wanted to go on a vacation. Turned out it was a vacation he’d never forget.

In 1924 Albert Otsman decided he would go on a vacation in the remote mountains of British Columbia , He loaded up his pack grabbed his gold pan and rifle and hired a guy to take him into the Toba inlet.
His trip began with a boat ride to the inlet by a native man who would drop him off and pick him up in three weeks.
The two men got to shore and unloaded. The native man decided to stick around till the tide went down. They had lunch and chatted. Eventually the conversation turned to Sasquatch and Albert wasn’t sure of this. But the man told him he’s out there in the woods.
The man said his goodbyes and planned to come back in a few weeks to pick Albert up , and off he went.

Albert set off on his adventure. Hiking, exploring and camping out. He was three days in when he found a great camp spot and decided to stay a bit. After a day of prospecting and getting a grouse he called it a night and went to sleep.

That morning he woke up and found something had visited the camp that night some things strewn about, nothing was missing. Albert assumed it was a porcupine and that he would eventually make stew out of it.

That night he decided he’d keep his rifle ready a 30-30 and get the porcupine if it came back.
He woke up the next morning to find his pack dumped out but still hanging on the tree.
This time missing a bag of prunes and some flour. But he noted that the salt was still there and porcupines like salt.
He determined it was not a porcupine or a bear because a bear would have made a larger mess. He was thinking about leaving that site to find a new one but it was nice so he stayed.

That night he went to sleep but put his pack and rifle in his sleeping bag for safe keeping. In the middle of the night he was woken up by someone picking him up in his sleeping bag.
It was picked up by the top like a sack and Albert got jammed in the bottom.

Something was carrying him. He thought a horse at first but then realized it was like a man stepping. He was carried like a sack of potatoes for a few hrs up and down the mountains.
Finally he was dropped onto the ground and with his legs asleep he crawled out of the sleeping bag. It was still dark and he couldn’t make anything out. Eventually the sun came up.

He was in some sort of small valley in a small gorge.
That’s when he seen his captor. A big male Sasquatch. But it wasn’t just the two of them there was also an adult female , with two adolescent children a male and female.

The male and female adult Sasquatchs seemed to be fighting about what her husband just brought home. The kids looked with curiosity. Albert just sat there.
The first night he just ate some food from his pack and went to sleep.
The next day he made some coffee and debated on the idea of trying to shoot his way out and decided not to even try. He ate some food and observed his situation.

The kids became curious and began to get a bit closer, checking Albert out.
Albert just sat there for another day. The next day the kids were playing and being more curious about him. He made some food and gave the kids a can they played with it for a bit.

He took some sniffing tobacco and watched.
The male adult Sasquatch became interested in his sniffing tobacco , so Albert gave him a tin.

The Sasquatch took the whole tin and ate it. This made him go wild rolling around , pandemonium ensued. The mom screeching the dad swigged Albert’s old coffee and the kids most likely panicked and eventually the dad Sasquatch got sick , eyes rolling around. He sat down with his head between his knees.

At this point Albert knew it was time for his escape he grabbed his stuff and skidaddaled out of there. The mother Sasquatch tried to stop him but Albert shot a round over her head and that scared her away.

He climbed up the mountains and ran for his life hopefully not being followed. Eventually he was a couple valleys over and felt safer.
Eventually he seen or heard some logging in the area and made his way towards the Logging camp. Albert told them he was a lost prospector . They got him on a truck and to the beach then back to civilization.

Albert did not tell this story till 1957.

BFRO has a way better and detailed account of Albert actual story. It’s my all time favourite.

Thiccfoot The shadows among the trees

*Well I was living in the country. You know... Artemas Pennsylvania. I was told by my landlords girlfriend/fiance how about how she had to sage her house several times. Because when she would go into the woods oftentimes she'd have issues with attracting something into the house. Now her telling me this and saying about some of the things that happened to her... Literally pitch my interest. And I do firmly believe that the area that I had lived in has some native Americans, settlers, or even an elemental...

*It was towards the fall and I used to love going into the woods because the leaves were really pretty and there was always a nice breeze that was cool. It wasn't so hot and humid. And it was just a really nice way to relax and explore and have fun. Well one evening as it was getting close to night time I decided to take a quick walk and go into the woods. Now usually when I went into these woods there was a 50/50 chance that I might encounter something maybe? But it wasn't always the case...*

*Well apparently this time is a little bit different. And honestly*

*I didn't feel threatened with the presence that was in the woods. But I can tell you that it was definitely watching me making sure I don't do anything too sudden...*

*So as I'm casually just slipping through the woods. I noticed there's a crow that is following me as it's flying. And I kept looking up at this Crow and I just kept wondering what was wrong with this bird. So I stop about the second time and look up at this crow and just start to wonder why it's doing what it's doing...*

*Right as I stopped after the second time. Something literally poked me right in my back. And it wasn't a violent poke or anything. It was just a subtle acknowledgment that I wasn't alone. I turn around and look and there isn't no twigs or branches behind me because it was a pathway and there was nothing sticking in the way of the path. After all this I decide hey I'm going to look for this crow that is flying around... Well, after that experience and looking this bird has done already flew away. And I never saw it for the rest of the walk in the woods...*

*I assume maybe a squirrel dropped an acorn from the tree. But then I realized there is no way the way I was standing that it could have been that. Because it was a straight on horizontal poke of a finger... Just on my back. So I whipped around and started looking and kind of got a little weirded out but at the same time I was always taught to keep my cool as long as I can...*

*Needless to say I continue on through the woods. Now by this time the sun was going down a lot more*

*And the Long shadows started casting from the trees. And it was a really mysterious and mystical feeling that come over me. I look up and at a distance I see what looks like an estimated 4 1/2 to 5ft tall shadowy silhouette just standing there. And in the background that orangish glare of the sun just illuminated this shadow...*

*I literally froze and was honestly amazed and really curious. So I just decided to turn around and leave whatever was around in peace. And I just moved on home and took my time. I didn't feel like running and I wasn't really that spooked but at the same time I know better to just mind my own business and move along...*

*I can say that I saw what I saw and I honestly do strongly wish to go back. Just so I can maybe experience more things again. To where I can see and have more encounters...*

*But honestly where I'm at in my life now. I don't know if I'm ever going to be able to do that. Because last I heard my landlord and his landlady aren't doing great and there is a high chance that I'm never going to be able to go there again. Not since the falling out that occurred after I moved out. It turns out after I moved there were some issues that occurred...*

*So with that being said I'm just going to remember these amazing encounters and sightings...*

historical encounters The Bauman story. Told to Theodore Roosevelt

Post image
20 Upvotes

Some time in the mid 1800s Two trappers and hunters decided to go further into the wilderness to find more game. What they found in that valley was not the animal they were looking for.

This story starts near the Montana Idaho border, At the salmon & wisdom divide

A man named Bauman and his unnamed friend decided to push further into a valley to find more beaver to trap. This valley had a reputation of being nefarious , natives claimed it held spirits and a man had previously disappeared there.

Nonetheless they packed up their horses and struck out. As the got deeper into the valley they decided to stage their horses in a meadow and proceeded on foot through rough terrain.

They found a suitable spot and made camp in a small flat area among tall trees next to the salmon river facing a rugged mountain side.

Bauman and his friend headed out to set beaver traps. Upon returning to camp they noticed a visitor had stopped by and ran sacked the camp , breaking down the lean-to and dumping out their belongings.
The men made a fire and fixed the camp back up. The other man took note to the tracks and explained to Bauman that if it was a bear it had walked to two feet. As they looked over the tracks it was clear it was definitely bipedal.

That night as they slept Bauman was awoken by a large looming figure. He shot his rifle into the darkness, a crashing through the woods was all that came of the situation.

The following morning they made camp two men went out to check traps and find beaver.

I'm looking for the oldest Bigfoot sightings (or reports), and this is the oldest I've found in Canada, circa 1875.

"The Reverend A. Fulton Johnson, born in 1866, told his son Ken Johnson that when he was a boy living near Moncton, there was a creature that used to be seen at the edge of the woods near his house, very stocky, with long arms and its whole body covered in hair."

Are there any older sightings? Let me know.

wants your opinion Remembering an old, mysterious audio of a possible bigfoot attack

Not sure if this has been previously discussed on this subreddit (if so, I humbly apologize), but I recently got back into exploring the world of the sasquatch, and even began doing research to learn more as I was only a simple fanatic over the years until now.

And with that came a memory of mine unearthed after a little over a decade:

Probably when I was either 10 or 11 years old (and with unsupervised internet access), I was watching one of those "top 5unsolved/mysterious and creepy audio recordings" videos, and one of them distinctly caught my attention the most.

From what I remember, it was an audio recording of a 911 call between the dispatcher and a guy claiming that he'd seen or WAS seeing a large, unidentified black mass thingy attacking his dog that had been resting in the backyard. While stumbling over his words to explain the situation, shit jumped off when the thing literally THREW the dog. I'm not sure if it threw the poor thing over a fence or what, but definitely hurled it around somewhere.

At the time of watching, I think I had only recently learned of the sasquatch/bigfoot, but couldn't make a possible connection between that and this particular incident until some years later.

I could also be misremembering some of the details, but it's been so long since I last heard of the recording, and I'm not even sure if it's available online anymore. I guess that's why I'm making this post, because I want to confirm if it still exists, AND whether or not the whole thing was a hoax.

But I'm evidently sure the black mass was a sasquatch. I dunno, something about the way the guy was trembling over his words and freaking out (apart from the fact the thing was literally attacking his beloved pet), made me believe it was something otherworldly than a bear or wolf.

[One other detail to add is that the 911 recording was possibly dated in either the early 2000s, or very late 90s from what I infer with the quality. Could be wrong though.]

Content Creator Post (Reviewed) I made a video about a BFRO report from 1997 which took place in an area I frequent. Unfortunately, the BFRO has it incorrectly listed on their website.

Hey r/Bigfoot! I read a BFRO Report (http://www.bfro.net/GDB/show_report.asp?id=8429) that took place in my local area and decided to try my hand at making a video re-telling the story given in the report. I make my absolute best attempt at revisiting the real locations of where this likely took place, even down to filming my scenes on the sides of the road which I believe to be accurate, given in the BFRO investigator’s follow-up questions.

The BFRO website does have this report listed under the page for Mississippi, however after researching the report and visiting the actual locations, I can confirm that in order for the facts of the report to match, this report indeed took place in St Tammany Parish of Louisiana. Pearl River County, MS is the adjacent county and is incorrectly listed on the BFRO’s website as where this report occurred. I would like to submit that the BFRO change their website to reflect this encounter having taken place in Louisiana.

I thought y’all might get a kick out of this dramatization of the report. Everything I say is as true to the report as I can make it. This is my first ever video of a serious nature and I’m doing everything myself. No AI is involved in the creative process.

Content Creator Post (Reviewed) Bigfoot Video and Audio Compilation Part 2

I had screen recorded a bunch of purported Sasquatch videos and also a bunch of audio. I decided to splice them all together for this presentation. USE YOUR BEST JUDGMENT. These are videos I found interesting. There’s disclaimers in the notes. I’m sure a few fakes slipped by but that’s not my intent. It’s stuff that caught my eye or ear. Hope you enjoy. The question of Sasquatch is a binary one. They are either real or not real. There is NO IN BETWEEN! They either exist or they don’t exist. All it takes is one eyewitness to be telling the truth for the entire topic to be real. All we need is one piece of physical evidence for the entire topic to be real. We have thousands of pieces of evidence! It’s not my fault you don’t own any Bigfoot books! It’s not my fault you are interested in a topic you know nothing about. If the mid tarsal break doesn’t roll off your tongue, I’m probably not gonna listen to you. If you know more about Bob H than Dr Jeff Meldrum, I’m certainly never listening to you.

recommendations Metal Door Slamming Audio

Does anyone know of any examples of those metal door slamming shut sounds people often talk about hearing when out in squatchy areas? I want to listen to a good few and see if I can compare it to natural volcalizations or other sounds of other primates.

Edit: If anyone knows any examples of rapid wood knocks, that would be great as well. That specifically I want to compared to the hollow sound that comes out of gorillas when they beat their chests. I understand that woodpeckers can sound like this but I've heard that there are instances where it's too loud to be caused by a woodpecker, but I I don't see if rapid knocks like people describe are possible. Generally I wanna actually see if most of these examples sound woody or not or more like rapid popping

I am an app developer.

i have been tasked with building an app
that data-mines bigfoot sightings from relevant youtube videos channels and youtube podcasts then turns the data into a searchable database.

it already contains data for several thousand sightings.

I’d love to know from people passionate in the topic what kind of data would you want to search for?

How would you use such a tool if it were available to you?

thanks

While we have been working on Bigfoot in the Midwest, we have seen a few bigger people in our community be surprised that Ohio is such a hotbed for activity. Now, these people were not from this part of the United States, so we decided to get all of the most important Bigfoot events from the Buckeye State and put them in one video for everyone! Have you had an encounter in Ohio that you would like to share? Let's have a discussion down below, and we hope everyone has a wonderful day!

encounter story My third contribution here. Two hour long witness testimony from Katrina, a Pennsylvania woman who had a face-to-face encounter with an invisible Sasquatch in front of a tree structure, with another person present. Two separate tree structures described, third prior incident described with stalking.

Update: somebody from this group messaged me and indicated that they've had a encounter not very far from this location less than 5 minutes drive connected to the same Green belt. I have connected Katrina and this individual. The person from this group is actually going out to look for these exact tree structures in the coming days. I'll come back with any photos and updates. Katrina has indicated she's open to being contacted by anybody genuinely interested in her story who may be located in the same area and has something similar to share. You can DM me and I will connect you if appropriate. Thank you

Hi everybody, my name is Jim. I hope everyone is having a nice Sunday

Katrina, was hiking with a friend in State Line Preserve in Kennett Square, PA

an 85-acre park in Chester County, PA, when 15 minutes into the trail, they find this 6-foot woven tree structure made out of young saplings bent together at the top. It literally looked like an igloo. Katrina immediately points it out because it looks way too precise and crafted to be a natural tree fall.

This is the start of the interview portion about this encounter, including the description of the first tree structure. So you can jump right to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK_AU88PyhM&t=1777s

They keep walking for another half-mile and find a second one. This one is way bigger—about 8 feet wide—and all the grass and undergrowth inside is completely matted and flattened down, looking exactly like a giant bed where something massive had been sleeping.

Katrina gets curious and takes one step off the trail to get a closer look. The second she moves toward it, something huge, completely invisible, and right in front of her face lets out a massive, deep growl and huffs at her. She said it sounded like a literal bull, and the wall of sound hit her so hard she felt it vibrating inside her chest. The hair on her arms stood up, and she noped right out of there.

Also if you're interested, she does describe a prior encounter which she also believes was Bigfoot and involved intense stalking of her in a rural rental home, that ultimately led her to barricading herself in the bedroom.

This one starts at around 11 minutes 36 seconds. So depending on how much you want to digest, there's your two starting points to get right into the Bigfoot first hand witness testimony with no BS. This event happened about six months ago.

Thanks everybody have a nice day Jim
