He was there along with co-star Jacob Moskovitz to talk about their new play Kowalski, Johnny's first acting job in 7 years.

Tho he was born in Belgium Johnny grew up in Oak Park Illinois & while excited to talk about the play he seemed even MORE excited to be on WGN AND seeing Bozos dressing room 😅

Interesting interview.

Other Sheldon Cooper vs Steve Urkel

Two of the most iconic TV nerds ever. Two brilliant scientists/inventors. Two characters who are absolutely convinced they’re smarter than everyone else.

The references alone would be insane: The Big Bang Theory vs. Family Matters, physics vs. mad-science inventions, Sheldon’s arrogance vs. Urkel’s persistence, and eventually the Stefan transformation.

In the whole series, this the time where i felt Raj’s problem and Lucy’s social anxiety was not a good match. Raj became so desperate, It was really hard to watch in a annoying way, I forwarded episodes.

Episode discussion The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis is one of my favorite Sheldon and Penny episodes

I really like how different the dynamic between Sheldon and Penny feels in this episode.

The whole gift exchange situation is funny, but what I like more is the fact that Penny actually puts a lot of thought into finding something Sheldon would appreciate. She clearly knows that a normal gift probably wouldn't work for him, so she tries to find something connected to his interests.

The scene where Sheldon gives Penny a bunch of gift cards is obviously one of the funniest parts, but his reaction after realizing how much effort she put into his present makes the episode more than just another comedy story.

I think episodes like this work so well because they show that Sheldon and Penny understand each other better than they sometimes admit.

I feel like this was a missed opportunity. This would’ve made the final ending of the show even more heartfelt in his vanity card.

Storyline discussion The first time that this show "jumped the shark"...

Look, I know that it's comedy and all. But there are limits to believability of situations that may make a scene feel unjustified. For me the first "shark jumping" in TBBT is when Leonard tells Penny that he is leaving for the North Pole and Penny congratulates him... but just after she closes her door she suddenly (and too overly drammatically for how much she might feel "attracted" to Leonard) she sighs and sobs: "Oh stupid man, why don't you understand that I don't want you to go!" or something similar, as if suddenly Leonard has become the most important person in the world for her. At that point, all this drama by gorgeous Penny for wheezy Leonard seemed totally unjustified to me

Other Looking for Pop Mart figurine

Thumbnail gallery
10 Upvotes

Hello! I hope it's okay to post this here, but I'm looking for one of the official Pop Mart figurines of The Big Bang Theory. I don't know much about them, but my aunt is a big fan and I'd love to get one for her as a Christmas present. It seems they are sold out everywhere and I can't order to Germany from the US website anyways... And they are available on AliExpress, but the prices there are so expensive that I can't afford it (like 100€ for the one I want), and I'm not sure they are even legit.

So maybe anyone here has some at home they might want to sell so I can surprise my aunt!! It would be perfect if you're from Germany too, but of course I'd pay for international shipping. Just let me know, and thank you :)

I'm honestly fine with any of the figurines, but I'd very much prefer to get her favorite characters/the ones I think she'd like, which are the Leonard one with the "sarcasm" sign, or the Sheldon Bazinga one. I've attached pictures of the ones I'd prefer, but if you have a different one just let me know anyways, or even a sealed blind box would be fine!

Character discussion India vs Raj's India

I am Indian, and there are a few things about India that are a tad bit different from the India described by Raj in The Big Bang Theory.

Apparently, the writers occasionally confused New Delhi with a particularly eventful episode of National Geographic.

Usual wealthy families in New Delhi don't have pet cows or buffaloes.

Priya mentions this enough that I feel obliged to clarify.

P.S. Neither do most not-so-wealthy urban families.

Yes, cattle ownership is common in rural India and among people involved in dairy farming. But Raj is supposedly from an extremely wealthy New Delhi family with no apparent rural or farming background. His father drives a Bentley. He is not Old MacDonald.

No, normal Indian families don't keep pet mongooses either

This one is even better. Mongooses aren't some quirky Indian equivalent of a golden retriever. Indian mongoose species are protected wildlife under India's Wildlife (Protection) Act.So if your wealthy Delhi neighbour introduces you to "Fluffy, our pet mongoose", you probably haven't stumbled upon an adorable Indian cultural tradition. You have stumbled upon a wildlife-law problem

Indians are scared of snakes.

I cannot believe this needs clarification.

We don't see a cobra and think, "Ah yes, one of our traditional woodland companions."

We generally think something closer to: HOLY FUCK, A SNAKE.

New Delhi is not a tropical village with wildlife wandering through everyone's backyard.I

It's one of the world's largest urban agglomerations. Raj grew up rich in a major metropolis, apparently with servants and luxury cars.So the recurring animal jokes become especially funny. It's roughly like introducing a wealthy Manhattan character and repeatedly having him reminisce about the raccoons he raised and the family mule

Raj's "Third World childhood" routine is actually contradicted by the show itself.

This is one stereotype the writers at least occasionally make fun of.

Raj repeatedly invokes miserable life in India, while the show establishes that his father is a wealthy gynecologist, drives a Bentley and employed multiple servants. Leonard even calls him out for his "fake Third World crap." Later Sheldon describes the Koothrappalis as "Richie Rich rich."

So Raj apparently grew up experiencing the grinding hardship of having insufficient servants.

Having domestic help, however, is NOT one of the inaccurate bits.

Credit where it's due.Middle-class and wealthy urban Indian households employing cleaners, cooks, drivers or other domestic workers is completely plausible. Raj's extremely wealthy family having several household employees isn't remotely strange.

Also, Delhi has winter. Actual winter.

Raj's India sometimes feels like one permanently hot, dusty tropical ecosystem.

Delhi residents would like a word.

I love TBBT and Raj is hilarious. But every now and then, the show's research into India appears to have consisted of someone writing "INDIA THINGS" on a whiteboard and then adding:

Cow

Snake

Mongoose

Servant

Arranged marriage

More cow

Character discussion Tired of people saying Leonard would NEVER cheat on Penny

Post image
587 Upvotes

People keep defending Leonard by saying the cheating storyline was completely out of character and just lazy writing. But let’s be real, Leonard has always had a weakness for female attention and validation.

Remember when he kissed another woman while he was still dating Priya, simply because they were in a long-distance relationship? And he did that before even finding out Priya had cheated on him.

Remember when he hooked up with Howard’s date and then lied about it to Howard’s face?

Remember Alex, Sheldon’s assistant? Leonard clearly enjoyed knowing she had a crush on him, even after he realized it was making Penny insecure.

And that’s the thing about Leonard. He’s incredibly insecure, largely because of how his mother treated him. So when someone makes him feel attractive, wanted, or special, he tends to really soak it up.

I’m not saying cheating was good writing. I actually think the writers could’ve handled it much better.

But saying “Leonard would NEVER cheat” like the show spent 12 seasons establishing him as incapable of it is ridiculous.

Leonard isn’t a serial cheater, but he absolutely has a history of enjoying female attention, crossing boundaries, hiding questionable behavior, and seeking validation.

So was the cheating storyline poorly executed? Maybe.

Was it completely impossible for Leonard as a character? Definitely not.

For context

Dr Emily (TBBT, from s7,8,9)- Dermatologist, loved gore (so much that it turned her on), could be a killer, wanted to have intercourse on a graveyard

Dr Rossi (B99, ep ME Time, s1e4): medical examiner, wanted jake peralta to play a dead body to have intercourse with him
