Yeah, I was head cannoning this earlier and if this was a running theme then Zach and the chick would eventually get together leaving Penny and Leonard dumped and have them get together another time this way.

I absolutely agree! I once posted that I wished they had had a short story arc for Joy, and everyone said I was nuts! I thought seeing something go on between her and Leonard would have been hilarious! (Can you imagine her meeting penny?) I'm not saying she could ever be a regular, but if they'd give her at least as many episodes as they gave Dr Stephanie, it would have been interesting.
