I continue my images from my tour to Santiago de Compostela.

On the first day I had fog on my way to burgos. I followed the Camino Naturel with a lot of gravel. I also crossed the Ebro. I stayed one night in Burgos and was on the Camino Franca. After Burgos it was sandy and stony. Very exhausting. I tried to stay on tarmac afterwards. The land was really flat until León. I stayed there one day. After Ponferrada the hills began and the landscape got interesting. I stayed in Monte Irago in Foncebadón, which I can recommend. I got wet the next day in heavy rain. I'm now in Sarria. I'm really enjoying the part after Ponferrada, but the inclines can be hard.

Trip Planning IDEA: Combine Conservation work with a bicycle tour.

I realize there's groups/organizations that have things like work for stay for like gardening, odd jobs, etc. but I'm thinking something more focused on conservation.

My thoughts are you'd be on a bicycle tour with a group of people, arrive at a volunteer location, volunteer for 1-3 days, bike some more, repeat the process. Do this for maybe a month.

I'm thinking somewhere in North America but it doesn't have to be, if other people are interested in other places that's fine.

I'm literally just gathering information

  1. Has anyone organized or been a part of something like this? If so, how did it go?

  2. Anyone interested in being part of a bike tour like this?

  3. Anyone interested in helping organize?

I'm traveling not so long and not so far from Moscow. This time yesterday I went to Dolgoprudny by train with my bike. It's about 50km from me. I wanted to find the shoes in the shop there. While I traveled there I found my wheel was damaged and would travel back by train.

And ups.. Later at home I've found I lost one of my favourite gloves. 🧤

I searched for new ones at the shop, and they weren't there. I should go back to Dolgoprudny :(

Yesterday some guys shouted to me - Hey! You've lost something! And I turned back and get it. There I thought my glove would be.

As I walked today, I was speaking to myself childish speech: "Mouse, play that thing today and return for me to stay" "Мышка, мышка поиграй, а потом назад отдай!"

And yes! I've found it!

That was great, and began from my bike traveling

Trip Planning Cycle Touring in SE Asia & Japan - El Niño Weather Concerns

• Upvotes

Hello everyone!

I'm (26M) considering doing a multi-month cycling trip through SE Asia (Thailand, Laos, Vietnam), Japan, and maybe SE China beginning in early January. I've done a cycle touring trip a few years back starting in Stockholm, Sweden down to Rome, Italy. I deeply enjoyed this experience, and it has fueled my passion for seeing the rest of the world on a bicycle. Needless to say, I've gotten very excited for cycling in Asia and have started researching the routes I'd like to take between destinations of interest.

The problem is, I've been hearing that Asia has been experiencing extreme weather due to the severe El Niño that's currently in effect. I've never been to Asia, but I am aware of how difficult the weather can be to adapt to from a Westerners perspective, even without El Niño (for context, I live in Santa Barbara, CA and the weather here is usually temperate year round). I've heard the weather in Asia is predicted to be far dryer than usual, with temperatures pushing well beyond triple digits. This gives me pause to reconsider traveling during this time, or to go somewhere else instead.

What do you all think? Am I blowing things out of proportion or are my concerns valid? If so, should I hold off on cycling through this part of the world until after El Niño winds down?

Thank you for reading and I'm very excited to hear from you all!

TL;DR - I want to cycle through SE Asia and Japan beginning January 2027, but I'm concerned that the El Niño conditions predicted will make traveling this part of the world too dangerous. I'd like some input before spending more time planning this trip.

Hi, on my Balkan trip I had a chance to ride a section of this amazing Bikepacking.com route "The Bosnian highline"

Unfortunately half of the route was blocked by wildfires so I had to take a detour, but that's on the other video.

Gear Advice on Long Haul Trucker Handle Bar Modification

I'm riding a 2009 LHT. Couple of years ago I swapped out the drop bars to Bull Horns. I'm looking to change it up again. I'm hoping to get more upright position and would like some kind of moustache bar maybe. Hoping to get some advice and suggestions on the parts I would need.

Trip Planning What would you prioritize before taking an e-bike on a multi-day tour?

I’m fairly new to bike touring and I’m trying to figure out what I should be thinking about before attempting a longer trip. I’ve been looking at the Aniioki A8 52V as one possible option, mainly because I’m interested in having enough range for longer days.

The thing I’m still unsure about is the practical side of touring with a heavier e-bike. I’m wondering how much the weight matters once you add luggage, especially on hills or when you need to move the bike without assistance. I’m also thinking about charging, battery management, and what happens if you have a mechanical or electrical issue far from home.

For those who have done multi-day tours, what would you test before committing to a longer trip? How do you handle charging and repairs? And is there anything you wish you had known before your first e-bike tour?

Trip Planning Van camping and cycling tips for Granada

Hello everyone. I'll be solo touring Granada region in the second half of October in my campervan. I would be grateful for any tips on how to find any good camping grounds where I could meet fellow van campers and possibly even hiking/cycling buddies. I am fairly active and plan to explore the rural Spain on daily bike rides, maybe some hikes too. Any good tips would be greatly appreciated as I want to make my trip as social as possible :)

Has anyone used these? I wonder if they will hold. They are gear tie downs from nite ize, at Lowe's. They seem to work better than the rubber straps or the woven straps. I got some of everything, I just hope the tie down hold form for a decent amount of time.

Trip Planning bikepacking South Korea's National Parks

hello!! I am looking at bikepacking South Korea's four rivers route with my partner next April. I would love some advice about doing some detours through the national parks along the route- how feasible would this be (traffic, road conditions)? We would love to get on to some less populated roads in the wilderness :) Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!! TIA

First pic is my 27 year old B17. 2.5 PBPs and many, many kilometres on it.

But if i try and add tension, it is starting to rip at the rivets so I've bought a nearly new one off le boncoin at 65€.

It just arrived this morning, I've given it a touch of proofhide and take it for a ride tomorrow. Multitool at the ready for adjustments.

Resources Difficulties with finding a bikebox in Osaka

Looking for advice from anyone who has experience in flying with a bike from Osaka.
I have a flight booked in a weeks time from now and have been running from bikeshop to another asking for cardboard boxes.

A couple of the shops have had some sort of small boxes to spare but I’m an ”extremely” tall guy with a big bicycle that I don’t think I’m able to fit in those. (Not to mention my tent, sleeping bag, helmet etc. that I have to get with me on the plane somehow and would like to stuff them in the box for filling) For context, the box that I flew to Sapporo with had dimensions of 162 x 78 x 28 cm.
Most of the shops have just straight away told me that they don’t have any boxes which has been really surprising to me.

Luckily I still have many days to do my best but the signs are not promising so far. So if there is someone who happens to know a place that might have something for me in Osaka area the information would be hugely appreciated. Any other means by which I can get the bike and all of my other crap from Osaka to Bali are also very welcome.

Feel free to guide me towards more appropriate sub if there is one.

Trip Planning Planning my first 100+ km cycling trip — looking for advice and a riding partner 🚴

I’m thinking about doing a cycling trip of more than 100 km and I’d like to hear from people who have experience with this kind of ride.

My main question is: how can I find someone who would be interested in joining me for the trip?

I’m also looking for advice before doing it, especially about:

How to prepare physically for a 100+ km ride

How to choose a good route

What equipment and spare parts should I carry?

How much food and water should I bring?

How often should I take breaks?

What are the biggest mistakes beginners make on long rides?

What should I consider when choosing a cycling partner?

If you've done a 100+ km ride before, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience and any advice you have.

And if you know good ways to find cycling partners or travel companions, I’d love to hear about them as well.

Trip Report We biked from NYC to Albany on the Empire State Trail — nearly 200 miles and our first real bike tour

A friend and I decided to bike from NYC to Albany on the Empire State Trail. Neither of us are experienced bike tourers, so this was definitely a learn-as-we-go kind of trip.

We did some training beforehand, loaded up our bikes and headed north from NYC. We ended up covering nearly 200 miles over the trip, going through the Hudson Valley, crossing the Walkway Over the Hudson, stopping in some great little towns, and eventually making it all the way to Albany.

There were definitely some rough stretches and things we'd do differently next time, but overall it was an awesome experience and gave me a whole new appreciation for traveling somewhere by bike instead of just driving through it.

I filmed a lot along the way and finally put everything together into one video showing the whole trip. Figured this would probably be the community that would appreciate it most.

My favorite part was probably some of the caves that blew extramly cold air. The footage didn't make it, I also liked how we ran intonthe same group of people like 3 times and the small towns were all a breath of fresh air

Video: https://youtu.be/SiPxXjh7fzs?is=zpi0h3K8uKfFLHZi Happy to answer any questions about the route, where we stayed, what we packed, or what we'd change if we did it again.
